NewEgg has the JBL for $99, free shipping, and free leather case. http://www.borders.com/online/store/..._libre-ereader has the Libre for $99 through Nov. 15 (in one spot on the site it says through 10/31, on this page it says through 11/15).

I'm favoring the JBL because it has a built-in dictionary and the foreign language capabilities. Am I correct in understanding that 1) you can click on a word as you're reading a book and the dictionary "pops up" with a definition? and 2) you have the option as you're reading to click on a word and see it in Spanish (I'm interested in learning Spanish) or, conversely, to read a book in Spanish and see a word in English? These are things I'm hoping to be able to do, so if I couldn't do these things on either a JetBook or JetBookLite, I would just choose whichever brand I found at the lowest price.

Iread, the JBL's English dictionary had only 10% of the words I looked up when reading the books that came free with the device.

I suspect that it is a dictionary for people who are learning the English language. Too bad. It worked great when it had the word.

On the JBL the dictionary is a menu option for the the formats that support a dictionary.
Selecting the "Dictionary" option highlights the first word on the page you then use the
direction pad to move down to the line that your word appears on and then move across
to that word. Then press the "OK" button.

Alternately you can press the "OK" button twice when on a word and a "Find" dialog will
appear and you can use keys on the side to enter your word, or any other word for that
matter. You can use the page turn keys to change the dictionary you are using. (You
would probably use the Spanish>Eng or the Eng>Spanish dictionaries the most.)

Once a definition appears you can use the direction keys to get the definition of the
word for the other languages, including Spanish.

I haven't needed it for English words, but it has come in handy for the occasional foreign
phrase that I run into.

Luck;
Ken

I would like to add that another difference between the new JB FW 35M and the ALP is with the JB you can use the <> arrow keys to go between pages when reading ePubs. The ALP does not have this feature. With ePubs both have serif fonts but the ALP has serif fonts with all formats as it is one of the fonts available to select under the settings menu.

Thank you for clarifying regarding the dictionaries

Your clarifications are a big help. I'm still strongly leaning toward the JBL, just waiting to see if I can catch a deep sale or good used model.

I think this is where I'm at right now. After asking a question about durability, I'm thinking about chancing it and getting a lightly used JBL on ebay, since they've been selling for about $60.

That sounds like a bargain to me, I think I'd chance it for that price.

My only concern about buying a Lightly used JBL, JB or ALP would be whether it can still be updated with the latest and future FW updates. I have read here where some people have had problems updating their units. Sounds like Ebay would be a good place to off load these units to unsuspecting clients. With a retailer and a warranty you still have access to the manufacturer for free support.

Note Some retailers do have Ebay Online stores.

Yeah, I keep going back and forth on the whole eBay thing. What you said above is the exact reason that I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I mean, I'm a suspecting client, but it's still been enough to keep me from buying.

On the one hand, it's quite a bit cheaper. On the other hand, there are several potential pitfalls vs. buying from the company. I'd be saving about $40, with the chance to lose much more if it didn't work out. Oh, decisions, why do you have to be so difficult?

Don't get me wrong.
I have purchased several devices from Ebay but they have always been from retailers that offer warranty and have extreme high user ratings. I purchased a refurb Palm M515 in 2007 and it is still goijng strong. This guy specializes in repairs and updates of older palm devices.
I also purchased a Magellan eXplorist 500 in the same year and it's still working.
It was supplied with a 90 day warranty and again was from an Online retailer.

Don't know about the Aluratek, but my JetBook NotLite certainly supports B&N epub DRM.
