Wait, what? Newspapers? Is this finally actually available? Where can I find details (cost, availability/titles, layout/visual styles etc)? If not, when?

dunno; Said it wasn't available in my region. Possible that it's there to put it in place until it officially launches, but if that were the case, wish it had been off by default so as to preserve battery life unless you wanted it on. *Shrug*

The Newspapers have been released for the Wifi Kobo. Unfortunately there isn't any documentation or screenshots of the newspapers, so they might be the exact same as the calibre versions. They are asking $14.99+ per month for each paper. I think thats overpriced but have yet to see what the actual digital version looks like.

The Newspapers should be available today for the Original Kobo but I may be wrong about that.

The newspapers have a free trial period. It seems to work well. I am not sure what else I would want in an ereader newspaper. I just need more time to read them.

Once we release the 1.7.1 update for the Kobo Wireless Reader today, our next focus will be on an update for the original Kobo, which will have the Newspaper support in it (Along with a bunch of other updates!)

Thanks for the replies. I have the original Kobo myself, and no interest at all in subscriptions. My father, however, is another story. I've been waiting to see what Kobo does with subscriptions before deciding whether or not to get him a wifi model for xmas. So is there really no way (currently) of learning about Kobo's subscription offerings without first buying a wifi Kobo and then also installing the desktop software? I don't use the software myself (I buy books from Kobo, decrypt them and drag+drop them), what I'd love to see is a section on the Kobo website that outlines subscription offerings, titles and prices, and details how they look on the Kobo. May I assume that this is in the works?

In canada:

Vancouver Sun
National Post
Ottawa Citizen
Globe and Mail
Montreal Gazette
Calgay Herald
Regina Leader Post
Victoria Times Colonist
The Province
Saskatoon Star Phoenix

Price 14 to 16 dollars

The Globe and Mail looks decent but I am not sure what to compare it to as I have not seen other newspapers electronically...

Just got the new firmware and will be trying it out. I can understand the wakeup to check for newspaper/magazine updates (well maybe not all day) but the problem was that it would not go back to sleep after checking for the update - this has been killing the battery life. Will be testing, along with a trial newspaper subscription.

We fixed this in 1.7.1 as well.
