I've been thinking for a while that if a company decided to produce an ebook reader that would handle all the formats, they'd make a killing. That wouldn't solve the problem of having so many formats, but it would alleviate the problem for consumers of having to have multiple ebook readers or having to convert.
As for geographical restrictions on sales, perhaps if independent publishers and self-published authors sold ebooks directly to consumers, it would help. Though I think most people want to purchase through a retailer they know. |
