Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but Mobipocket use OPF and support some of the XHTML tags in their format. That's why they have a pretty good HTML support I guess...

The Java version of Mobipocket does have HTML support, but I don't think it is as strong as the Desktop Reader version (not really sure though). You could open a HTML document with Mobipocket, but our current HTML viewer will be the default association, so you would have to change the registry for that. You could probably also create your own extension like .mhtml and make Mobipocket open those...
I think that TXT files should also work. Binary formats like CHM or PDF will need to go through the (free) Mobipocket converter software to turn them into .mobi files. I'll try some of those formats when I'm back in the office Monday. |

The way I understand it, the Desktop Reader or Creator (both Windows only) can be used to convert MS Office, PDF, HTML or text files to the Mobipocket (.prc) format and it is the .prc file that is actually exported to the handheld device. This works well for HTML, with the only major downside the lack of Linux or MacOS support.

Indeed: when you choose the "import" on Desktop Reader this converts the file to .prc and it will probably look a lot nicer than when you open a HTML file directly with Mobipocket on the iLiad...
