Is there a way in Sigil to add links without hardcoding them in the code view?

Perkin & Jellby,

Have you personally verified that your internal links work on an iPad running iBooks?

I've used them on a Sony PRS-300, in epub files.
(needs the return link as well, as there's no 'back' button)

No, I have no iPad nearby. But my files are uploaded here, so anyone can try. I didn't build them with Sigil, though.

Jellby:

Where are some files of yours I could try? I've got one of the infernal devices (STRICTLY for testing!)....

Friends - I am not yet convinced that epubs with internal links running on an iPad with iBooks, actually work. Yes, they should work, but do they?

I have produced epubs with internal links that run on various readers and hardware, but since I do not own an iPad and I am not an Apple developer, I cannot verify that internal links actually work on the iPad.

I'll post this question in the Apple Devices / iPad section and ask iPad owners to run a few tests. Or I could setup a fund and raise enough money to buy an iPad. - Fabe

Not to sound testy, but I said I would test it and I will. I'll try Jellby's ePUB right now.

They work. They work perfectly fine, and in fact you can indeed jump back from the Notes to the origination point (although, Jellby, I would point out that in P&P, you don't actually display the origination point of the notes, so I'm not quite sure how the reader would know to click to GO there.)

Nonetheless; his table of illustrations works perfectly and his "back" links inside his notes work perfectly. On the iPad running iBooks.

Jellby, did this pass EpubCheck 1.05, out of curiosity? I only ask because I've had some brain-damage from time to time with named bookmarks/tags.

EDIT: P.S., Jellby: really lovely ePUB, btw. Nice work.

Thanks for testing Hitch. I have the P&P epub in front of me. I'll spend time with the coding. - Fabe

@Fabe: YW. No problem, and now I have a lovely copy of The Prince and the Pauper, replete with spiffy links, on my iPad. ^^

Yes, it passes epubcheck. I haven't tried FlightCrew on it yet.

What do you mean? For the first note, for instance, you have in chapter IV:

among serving-men and ’prentices[1]

where [1] is a link to the footnote, and it appears as a superscript, instead of between brackets. If you follow this link and then follow the "Back" link at the bottom of the note (not the back function of the reader, if it exists), it should return to the beginning of the paragraph where the footnote appears.

I tried Flight Crew, myself, today; I rather like it, FWIW.

Okay, THIS is embarrassing: my only defense is, I'm waiting on new glasses to be delivered. I just couldn't see the superscript numbers. Ahem. However, yup, they are indeed there. I was able to see the notes, and to see the jump back (and the TOC, Table of Illustrations, etc., all of which worked fine)...but I wasn't able to see the initial superscripted numeric note. I had to really look for it. My bad. I increased the size of the font, and my error was apparent even to me. :-(

Sorry, Jellby! But the rest of what I said still stands--book looks great, works great.
