The most fun?
Has to be The Bible, the guys who put together those stories sure had a lot of advanced everlasting humor. |

One of the most special books I remember is the Malaussène saga by Daniel Pennac (it's actually 5 books, but I count them as one here). It's an interesting story, intelligent humour, vivid and imaginative writing... I read them in the Spanish translation, and I'd like to read them in the original French (though I have the feeling they'll be harder than usual).

The Night Watch series by Sergei Lukyanenko are great books. He builds a wonderful fantasy realm in the first book, something I found very unique and intriguing. Better yet, the series remained compelling throughout.
I'd heard about the series because the movies (Russian) had gained such critical acclaim. I usually read books first if I can, and in this case, it saved me. Horrible, horrible, awful, terrible movie! I actually purchased the Blu-rays sight unseen, and wanted to toss them in the fireplace (kind of useless, since I have asthma and our fireplace remains unused). The story changes, and the terrible, terrible "stylistic" editing just drove me nuts. There's such a thing as too artsy... though we owe the fast-cut style to least artsy Directors of all, Michael Bay. Absolutely great books. A Clockwork Orange would be a great counter example here. An amazing film, with Kubrick using the visual form to truly enhance the story and characters. An equally amazing book. Equally, I say, because Kubrick did such a good job bringing it to the screen. I want to say "the most faithful" text-to-screen production ever, but I prefer the American version, always feeling like the final chapter (in the English version) was just tacked on. -Pie |

I just finished "Flashman" and "Royal Flash," by George MacDonald Fraser, both romping good yarns with an unforgettable anti-hero. On to "Flash For Freedom!"
Ordinarily I'm not a fan of series, but this one is daring me not to continue. So much fun! |

I get a lot of enjoyment for Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum Novels.
Really enjoyed The Passage by Cronin, can't wait for the sequel. |

I loved Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell. The protag is an ex-hitman now working as an intern, so it's set in a hospital. The voice is compelling and the action is nonstop. It even has footnotes, which are often amusing. A very interesting book!

I love the Flashman books and must have read all of them at least 5 times each. To have that feeling of just having come across them and know that there are several more in the series to read would just be great. BTW, although there are themes and connections, each of the books could be read as a stand-alone work and thoroughly enjoyed (IMHO). |
