When it comes to using the PSP charger or not I'm just going to say mileage varies. The post about me losing battery capacity over time using USB I've read posts here about the same thing on a PSP charger.

When you do get your ereader tell me if it reboots a few times upon getting it working. That I'm curios about.

When it comes to using an offbrand charger the biggest thing is the IC circuit...A few offbrand do not have reliable cutoff and will sent current into the device despite it not needing any and cause damage to the battery (This happened on a PSP using a Pelican brand charger).

I've been using an el cheapo third party, unstickered PSP charger on my 600 for five months now. It was one that had got a number of good reviews on Amazon. I tend to leave it charging for longer periods of time, to ensure it's fully charged (although not overnight).

Has worked like a trooper, so far.

FWIW (different model), My PRS-950's manual doesn't even mention that charging happens via computer USB connection even though it does. Their standard recommended charging procedure is to use the plug-in charger, which, btw, goes into the USB port (no barrel charger on this model).

I would think that a properly filtered mains charger would always be a better choice. Likewise, I would never leave something like a reader plugged into a USB port on a PC that was going to be power cycled - power transients when turning on and off can do very bad things to sensitive low-power electronics like the reader.
