Great suggestion. Yes, I filed a claim with the lost and found of both the airport and the airline.

At this point, I am resigned to the fact it is lost. I have my books on Calibre as well as the B&N online library so it's not like I lost my books.

Interesting point: Is the person who has my Nook considered a pirate? I mean, he/she has all my books and can read them freely while I have copies in the B&N library and on my laptop that I can read.
