I have a problem with it. It's unfair to some of the readers. So you would not mind then if Amazon was able to sell best sellers for say $9.99 while the ePub gets current Agency 5 pricing?

And readers can make decisions too: buy this or that, shop here or there, and vote with one's dollars. Is it "unfair" to Amazon if I buy something at Kobo for $9 that might be available at Amazon for $8 because I prefer the ePub format? You can buy the series at kobobooks for CAN$4.09 each ... and enjoy the first one free from the author's site as per the OP link. That makes all three books average $2.72. ![]() |

And if I was to buy them from Amazon, they would average $1.99. I know it's not that much difference. But it is different.
So would you buy an ePub because it's an ePub at say $5 more then the same eBook at Amazon? How much of a price difference does it have to be before you stop and say it's unfair? |

I have no problem with it either. "Fair" has nothing to do with it. I'm a photographer and a computer programmer. A significant portion (well, more accurately, a tiny bit of my income - it's significant to me, but not to my bank) of my income is from intellectual property.
People who produce art of any sort should feel free to price their work as they see fit. If the price is out of line, the marketplace will correct that mistake in time. Quote:

It is neither fair nor unfair, it just is.
If the price is higher than the percieved value to me, I don't buy. If the price is higher in one store, than in another, then I don't buy from the higher priced shop. If I can't buy from the lower priced shop, then I re-evaluate the percieved value, and if the price seems too high, I don't buy. With all due respect, 'fair' has very little to do with the world as it is. Quote:

Here's the thing, Jon. The pricing differential resulted from the fact that I sell so little copies on Smashwords that I haven't visited there in months. When I lowered the price over at Amazon to $2.99, I simply forgot to go back and change the price at Smashwords.
If you'd left a comment asking about the difference on this thread, I more than likely would have told you it was an oversight and changed the prices over at Smashwords to reflect the new prices at Amazon. Instead, you chose to be offensive about it, telling everyone who reads the thread not to download the book. ( Despite the fact that the book was being given away for free - making the issue of price completely irrelevant. ) I went out and priced flat screen tvs today. You know what? I found a different price for the same model across five different stores. Pricing differences are a part of the retail industry. What I didn't find was someone standing there shouting at people not to take the free tv being given away because it was being sold for five dollars more in the store down the street. I've uploaded a new epub file to the download page so any formatting issue that might have been present should now be corrected. |
