I guess my situation is rather unusual as I use my device almost exclusively for library books, which requires Sony (or ADE) to load the books, and haven't had a problem at all.

I'm truly amazed at number of folks here with hundreds and thousands of paid-for books.

The Sony Library software is some of the most unwieldy and limited that I've ever worked with. It's easier to just drag-and-drop the books into the reader.
Ahhh! I don't keep many books on the reader. I read 'em and delete 'em. Everything is permanently stored on my hard drive. Yes plus about the Sony library software, it can't even come close to Calibre.

I keep my readers loaded - that way they are like boxes of chocolate: something there for every craving.
