Unfriending: Applies here (and other forums) as well

I have a facebook page but nothing is there except for my email address. I went to an international high school, and then the military, it's hard to keep track of all those folks

I got bored with my facebook after about a week. Nobody is likely to find me because I have such a common name. There are thousands of me. I haven't looked at facebook for months, however, yesterday as I dropped into my hairdresser to make an appointment, she commented on the costume party photo of me! what!
Another facebook friend had posted the photos, and they just popped up on the hairdresser's page.

No harm done I guess, but makes you think about stuff about you going on you don't even know about! Lucky I am not famous!

I'd've laughed, but that's only because I know people who would do that ironically or humourously (I'm one of them, if I'm honest. I get it from my mum - we've been known to text each other whilst in the same room and holding a completely different conversation. It was mostly to wind dad up, though

I have a facebook account, which I use for a variety of reasons, none of which I would object to future employers finding out about. I lead a very boring life

I find FB very useful for promotions and for giving readers the illusion that I deeply care about their opinions.

The one HUGE advantage is that total strangers can send me messages without having access to my e-mail address. Love that.

I have extreme privacy settings and don't allow tagging of me in photos, so no fears on that score.

I have resisted tons of requests to join FB. My TOP reason for not wanting to join? I have way too many realities (and identities) and I didn't want them colliding on the WWW. I like my realities neatly boxed in their respective space/time continuum. Also I didn't need another time sucker. I still googlestalk the people I want to find.

I did, however, start a FB just recently under the insistence of my husband. Basically, I just upload my book reviews on it. I never go on it, one person requested my friendship and I've no idea how to really use it. But it's there. With no personal info, other than this name.

I've just heard too many friends bitch and moan about the dumb stuff they have to read and the trouble FB causes between friends/lovers (who turn into ex-friends and ex-lovers). No thanks, I can cause myself enough trouble with electronic help.

I don't do twitter.. I don't even understand the concept! Unless I one day signed up while I was sleeping drunk....

Now I'm scared!

Ok, my husband just looked it up (he has twitter) and he said yep, it's there, "hey whassssssssssuuuuuuuuuuppppppp?" I don't write like that! Who IS that?

On thinking, this sort of thing is particularly disturbing about the wild west of the internet in that someone can more or less assume your identity (can you say identity theft) so easily ....

I have a Facebook account, and I use it every day, but I keep my list of friends to people I know in real life and trust, declining all other invitations. My privacy settings are set to friends or friends of friends at most. I never had any problem with it, and it's a nice way of keeping in touch and getting information about parties/events.

I'm sure it's different with accounts set up for business purposes.

Unless it was a PM, on Facebook there's a small crowd of friends around who read those things, so the reply would be a kind of public statement, different than just replying to one person, cutting out the rest. Just like here on the forum.

I have a facebook account because some stores post discounts there. I have set my privacy settings so that I can't be found in searches and I never finished filling out my profile past name, email address, and birthday anyway.

My friend found me through a common "like", and I ended up accepting her request, as well as ones from her dad and her husband. Since then, I've been refusing her friends and family, since I don't have a history or personal connection with them beyond talking to them at her kids' birthday parties.

However, Facebook recently changed something and my account opened up and my husband's grandmother's nephew found me. I accepted him and fixed my settings, but now every couple of days I get another family member (from his list) asking to friend me.

I don't post anything, although my Goodreads account is hooked up and if I remember to go over there and add books, those get posted on my wall, but that's it. I'm only in it for the coupons! I'm accepting these recent requests, because they are family. I told my husband that if they all want to friend me and check out my local business links, they are welcome to it.

I'm still trying to figure out what setting I changed that resulted in my getting no friend requests at all when I opened my account (my wife thinks I'm lying, and actually have a hidden folder of sleazy friends in there somewhere--I wish someone would tell me where).
