It's called Black Friday and occurs the day after Thanksgiving (4th Thur in November). Huge sales at most stores. I save much of my tech shopping until then. In the last few years, I've only gone to a few stores now that most are offering the same deals online.

Last year, Best Buy gave away $30 gift cards with the purchase of the Sony PRS-300. Now that they carry Kindles, Nooks, and Sonys; I expect to see some good competition. This is when I plan to get my ereader.

Cool, thanks for the tip! My present will be a bit late but I'm cool with that. ^_^ (Unless my husband bought it already, who knows!)

SD card is probably pretty essential to me, the audio not so much... the screen would save the battery especially if I read in big format... I will have to get my hands on one to try it out. They have some of the older models at some of the Target stores around here, but they are always hopelessly broken or out of batteries. If the man hasn't bought it yet, I might have to go check them out somewhere.

YW; and BTW, BF is also the time to buy memory cards. Last year, 8GB cards were selling for $15. I'm looking for some good deals on 16GB cards this year.

In B&N's defense, their DRM has been incorporated into Adobe, so any device maker that wants to can use it. In addition, there are reasons to prefer B&N DRM to other forms of DRM. The most important is that it doesn't depend on having your device registered. If Adobe gets out of the DRM game tomorrow, all ebooks with Adobe DRM will be readable only on the devices they are already readable on. B&N's epub books will work on any device that has the software on it.

In addition, the Jetbooks also support B&N epub.

Not unless you read, very, very fast.

In practice, the limiting factor on most ebook readers is not the page turns, but the little back ground functions that the reader constantly is performing (even when the reader is in sleep mode... which is most of the time).

In practice given identical batteries, and limited to using just the functions both the 350 and the 650 have, the difference in battery life will probably be minimal.

Soooo! I got it!!!

I got the red 650 today and now I'm gonna charge it up and load some things I have and take her for a test drive!

Does anyone know a good place to get free e-books? I know of project gutenberg but was wondering if there were any other gems out there.

This thing makes me wanna read forever. Ooooh! The charging graphic is even cool! *nerdgasm*

My favorites are Feedbooks -- ManyBooks -- and my public library.

Also, most of the ebookstores have free sections with both current and public domain works. You can also download books from this forum. Just click on the E-Books tab in the blue toolbar located at the top of the page.

This site has free books. The folks posting them here do a nice job of cleaning up problems found in the books at gutenberg and the like.

Your specs don't narrow the field a lot. Touch screen or controlls? My reader is a Aluratek, its got controls, does not cost an arm and a leg like the kindle does but its not touch screen.
