I've just had a quick look in PG and there's not many chess books available - two by Edward Lasker (brother of the more famous Emanuel) in ascii, with strange ascii diagrams; and Howard Staunton's 'The Blue Book of Chess' in html.
I tried the latter in BD, but the pictures didn't come out, not even when I tried a book image file. But you may have better luck. |

Try pdflrf. I've successfully converted a few chess books in landscape mode. smart cut helps a lot in this case.

I've deleted the link above because many of the books are still in copyright and the site owner specifically says that he does not have the rights to the books.

http://www.gutenberg.ca/ (Go the the bottom of the page.) It is from PG Canada, so is legal in life of the author+50 years countries. |

I think the most convenient way to try to adapt chess books should be using FineReader. It can deal with the diagrams like images and the others things as text, even on double-column documents.
I am not sure however how it would cope with figures in algebraic notation though. And there are so many kinds of chess fonts...You can't be happy with Merida font only. Specially on older chess books. ![]() Will follow this thread. Who knows, somebody will find a brilliant solution. ![]() |
