You know, I decided to try it on my DX Graphite and it logged in just fine...

The older Kindles including the DXG have a completely different browser. Kindle 3s have 3.0 firmware which have a WebKit based browser.

I've just sent an e-mail about it (I wanted to wait until I'd had a chance to try for myself before I e-mailed). I've sent the following list of mobile-optimised sites that have the same problem:

m.rememberthemilk.com
m.gmail.com
www.mobileread.mobi
m.facebook.com

Interestingly, m.livejournal.com works fine.

Internet access using the Web Browser through Whispernet is not available in most countries outside the United States when using your Kindle's 3G connection, however most customers can access Wikipedia. These restrictions do not apply when accessing the Web Browser over a Wi-Fi connection.

Did I solve your problem?

I hit the "No" link, and tried to get a call back, but apparently that's not available to the UK

I explained that it wasn't a 3G issue, as I was using Wi-Fi, and could access the normal versions of the sites without any trouble, but I'd like to use the mobile-optimised versions because the normal versions don't work well on the Kindle's small screen.

Hopefully now they'll realise that it is a bug in the browser and pass it on to the developers.

I haven't been able to use Wikipedia's mobile in any K3 firmware version.

Gives the "Web browser cannot download this kind of file. Only files with the extension... can be downloaded..." error.

This is what I sent:

I can't type into the username and password of mobile sites. m.facebook.com, m.gmail.com, or mobileread.mobi. I can do it on the main site but not on the mobile one.

I've had a second reply:

I've reviewed our previous correspondence with you, and I'm very sorry about the incorrect information you received.

If a specific website has a mobile version, you can access it by selecting "Use Basic Mode" from the Menu options.

I can't see any mention of "Basic Mode" in the browser menus. Does anyone know what this refers to? I can't see any mention of it in the page linked to above.

O'Reilly did something to safaribooksonline.com that allows K3's to login. Can mobileread.com denizens/powers that be do something similar? This would be more effective than waiting for Amazon to fix the browser...
