If New Zealand libraries are like the US, then a very popular book has a two week loan period, which would be 25 loans per year. I've heard tell of individual volumes having 100+ loans per year.

One book with 24 loans per year enables six books to have four loans per year.

Not sure how it works elsewhere in the world but here when the library gets a book they know is going to be popular, they purchase multiple copies for the first year. For instance, the new J. D. Robb book is going to have 10 copies available for the first year. Those copies are considered as 1 book when counting loans. For example, when they get the new J. D. Robb book at the beginning of Sept., they are getting 10 "copies". Over the year and assuming 2 week loan periods, that would give 260 loans for 1 book.
