I don't mind them at all if they contribute, and occasionally if they don't but are well done. I don't want to find hardcore porn in a book I'm reading unless I'm reading it for that specific purpose.
Like a few others have said though, it is hard to do well for all types of readers. So I think the safe route is to leave most of it to the imagination of the reader, after all if I wanted it explained in graphic detail I'd just go get a movie - or turn on primetime TV now |

I'm in the "bring on the smut" category. My reading experience is never less enjoyable for the inclusion of twelve pages of detailed sex. Or eighty pages of detailed sex. Or eighty thousand words of detailed sex. (Which, to date, I haven't found all in a *single* sex scene, but have seen scattered across several of them, held together by a thin framework of something resembling plot, which I was very happy to read.)
I'm told there are genres where this is not appropriate; I don't read those. (I read plenty of content that doesn't have sex scenes, just not any that I don't think could be improved--meaning, "more enjoyable to me"--by more sex.) |

I restrict my reading to Penthouse Letters so maybe I'm the wrong guy to ask.

@Elfwreck
as soon as they do I'll start enjoying public transportation - the poll: with literotics it's the same as with real: if it fits YES. only if the author can't do it (again like in reality) it is better omitted. there's nothing more boring than a paragraph of IKEA porn. |

I think that it needs to direct affect a main character and contribute to the character's development. It also needs to be brief and to the point. If I want to read porn I will read porn books
