I wonder how they are maintaining OS/2 to run on current-day hardware. I see mentionings of CUPS, and RPM packages. Are they running a Linux kernel inside or on top of OS/2, to run Unix/Linux software and control hardware for which there are no current drivers? Are they running the old OS/2 or even only the OS/2 kernel virtualized, within Linux (which would be my choice)? I can't imagine these companies writing drivers for a plethora of hardware. If I had to support an OS/2 application or two from the 90's, I'd run the latest version of OS/2 Warp or Warp Server from 1996, with all the fixpacks, within a virtual machine on top of a Linux box. The virtual machine would only have access to the network, but not to the internet. Last edited by Katsunami; 04-23-2017 at 07:41 PM. |

At a college, a kid (that had to have helpers) that didn't know basic math (think addition and subtraction) was put in excel. The next semester same kid was put in Access. Problem there, his first helper didn't know Access. The second helper couldn't find the power button on a computer. Luckily third helper did know computers but she really didn't want that job. |

If you're going to discontinue your free email service, it would be very nice to give people some notice of that. Now, I can't even log into those addresses to see if any messages are there unless I want to pay a minimum of $25 each to regain access. Umm, nope, not happening.

After years and years of effort, I've basically finished ripping my normal CD-collection... so now I'm moving on to the boxes of classical music I have, such as "The Complete Works of Johann Sebastian Bach" and others.
Thank god for online music databases such as MusicBrainz Picard, CTDB, and others. Without them, ripping classical music would be an even greater pain in the @ar$3 than it is already because of its sheer size (My Bach set is 160 CD's, but I'm not going to rip the vocal works and the cantata's, because I'm not interested in sung liturgical music.) This is one of the advantages of physical media. When you buy something, you put it onto the shelf in the correct spot, and you're done. Getting my ebook and music libraries into shape has taken an ungodly amount of time over the years. And then, some people wonder why I wake up in the middle of the night, screaming, to check if all of my backups are available and readable. Everything I have can be replaced if need be, but I *don't* want to spend more than half a decade again to get everything in order. Last edited by Katsunami; 04-24-2017 at 01:21 PM. |

If someone is scheduled to get off at 4, do not tell them at 3:55 they now have to stay and close at hopefully 730.. Been at work since 8 and no lunch. (Lunch is not the big issue but still.)
Did you ever stop to consider maybe his wife had something special planned for dinner since she actually knew what time he would get off work? Since she sure can't do anything that can't be held when he closes since he might get out anywhere from 7:30 to 9. At least give an hour's notice. |

It's an old email set up thru an old board I used to post at. The email provider is Everyone.net. If they did send notice of the change, I'm now locked out of that email address until I pay to upgrade. Which I won't do since it was basically a throwaway address anyway. I do need to change that email address a couple of places I had used it for.

If that is good or bad, depends on the class either teaching how to cause anxiety, or how to temper it....
