Maybe the Discworld reading order would be worth its own thread?

Over the last week I've had 3 false starts with 3 different novels where I couldn't get past the third or fourth chapter.
Not sure if its just a dislike of those novels, or I've hit a brick wall with reading, but three in a row is a bit concerning. Might be time to take a short break from reading. |

Frontlit E-ink screens look nothing like LCD or OLED screens. I do agree with you that scrolling an E-ink screen is stupid, although selective updates do mitigate it somewhat.

A major "paper-like" advantage of eink is lost if the front light is used, and a matt OLED or mat LCD screen is then as good or better. |

It's often painfully obvious to tell when a self-published author cheaped out on the editing.

My vent and rant: When downloading metadata in Calibre, I almost always get the ISBN for the physical copy of the book.

Unfortunately, that has become common with big-name writers with the major publishing houses. My wife frequently complains about the errors in the books she reads - and those are traditional paperbacks bought in stores.

Since the topic of poor editing has arisen, I wonder if someone can help with the following: I am puzzled by a particular phrase in Adrian Tchaikovsky's Service Model, about a robot that kills its owner and goes on the run. Here's the sentence: "With a sudden access of motion, the Wonk leapt to the rail, bunched itself, and jumped the gap onto another platform..." What is "access of motion"? Or does he mean "excess of motion"? "Axis of motion"? I'm at a loss.

Is this referring to the robot itself? If so, I'd wonder that 'access' might just be some weird phrasing to make it seem more robotic.
