I'm not a Scotch drinker, but in 15 years living in Japan, I never met anyone who could drink the Suntory Scotch. Logic says there must be someone who buys it, but I never met one. I do know from personal experience that the Suntory rum is better used to fuel Zippo lighters.

Ah, yes. I wasn't suggesting they were the same thing, I just found it an interesting coincidence that "the best whisky in the world" was part of the reviled Suntory stable.

Being of a contrary bent, I'm actually now more interested in tasting Suntory than Yamazaki, just to see if it's really that bad!

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

If I had listened what Mama said, I’d be at home today.
Being so young and foolish, poor boy, let a rambler lead me astray.
Go tell my baby sister never do like I have done
To shun that house in New Orleans they call the Rising Sun.

Good morning, everyone. I woke up thinking about this song today, having played it last night with some friends... Everyone seems to agree the House of the Rising Sun was a brothel, but I have a different take on it. I think it was an Opium Den. Far more ruinous to young man, and much more of a serious habit (ball and chain?) to lead someone back into its fold than a brothel. They were common in New Orleans in the 1800's. Hmmmmm....

Anyway, I have a big mug (actually already my second,) of Ahmad's "English Breakfast" tea in my cup and I'm just about ready to visit the Food Lady! I think this is going to be a very nice, relaxing day!

Both. I made the mistake of buying Suntory Rum for an expat Thanksgiving dinner when I first came to Japan. Indescribably bad! As for Zippos, in Vietnam we usually couldn't get regular lighter fluid, so we'd tie a string around the lighter, open a gas can and dip them in, letting them soak up the gas. Worked fine...

Taste them side by side for comparison.

Often pricing is based on the same thing as the Emperor's new clothes, especially in Japan. Once in a great while it's justified. Who knows? You might like it better than Taliskers...

Teh Tarik is so ubiquitous in Malaysia and S'pore that when I ask for a cup of plain black tea they look at me like I have three heads! They can't fathom why anyone would drink tea without at least half a glass of sweetened condensed milk added to it and frothed up! Tasty stuff, but too sweet for me to drink more than once or twice a year.

It's SOOO common that when you stop at a highway rest area/restaurant/bus stop, the restaurant staff have already filled trays full of glasses half-filled with sweetened condensed milk, stacking the trays 5-6 high, so when a long-distance bus pulls in, they can serve the teh tarik very quickly.... Pour in the tea, pour it back and forth twice, and serve!

Thank you for that info, I didn't know it's so prominent in the area. I did think that it should be famous or else my friend wouldn't have told me to drink it the first moment I could lay my eyes on it. Hahaha. She definitely knows I'm a sweet tooth.

By the way, I really want to visit Malaysia someday, and see those tea presentations myself. That guy is good-looking too.

Late afternoon mug of unbranded Keemun tea. Always a hit!

Do a Google 'Image' search for 'teh tarik' and you'll find hundreds and hundreds of similar images. It's sold absolutely EVERYWHERE in Malaysia and S'pore... Every food court, every hot beverage street vendor, and every restaurant. Here in northern Thailand, we can find it in 'most' of the food courts, but not all, and in every Indian restaurant.

Peet's Anniversary Breakfast Blend tea, as we all try to dry out a bit from the series of "Pineapple Express" storms through here this last week.

Tea. An unremarkable, and unlabeled blend from the back of my cabinet. It's going straight to the bin.

Here I sit on Buttermilk Hill
Who could blame me, cry my fill
Every tear would turn a mill
Johnny's gone for a soldier

I sold my flax, I sold my wheel
To buy my love a sword of steel
So it in battle he might wield
Johnny's gone for a soldier

Shule, shule, shule-a-roo
Shule-a-rak-shak, shule-a-ba-ba-coo
When I saw my Sally Babby Beal
Come bibble in the boo shy Lorey

Good morning, everyone! Happy Saturday! It's another assemblage of the Chiang Mai Fencing Club today, so I'm oiling my weapons and getting ready for battle. Missed last Saturday so I'm feeling a bit rusty, but that should shake off quickly.

There is Taylors of Harrogate's "Yorkshire" tea in my mug today. Already on the second cup. I made it with a double charge of tea leaves just for the extra caffeine buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I think it's going to be a very gooooood day!

Peet's Major Dickason's Blend coffee this morning. While I combine getting ready for yet another trip to the office for a couple of days, and dredging the latest batch of dry cured bacon, and doing the important job of watching Canadian Open curling.
