It is an interesting book, he writes very well. I didn't find the end very satisfactory - the story seemed to wander a bit. See what you think.

Excellent book! - UK government take note - it would be a great way of dealing with the large number of illegal immigrants currently infesting the UK.

Just finished Ngaio Marsh's "Swing, Brother, Swing" (A Wreath for Rivera in the US market) - Marsh's Inspector Alleyn books are finally beginning to show up in Kindle format. I find more wit & dry humor every time I read her stuff.

I'm currently following "Blackest Night." It is a massive DC Comics crossover series that originated in "Green Lantern" and "Green Lantern Corps" and is affecting every title in the DC Comics line. The series will end in February 2010.

The main miniseries is written by Geoff Johns and he is simply an outstanding comic book writer, one of the best currently writing. In recent years he has taken Green Lantern and changed it from being just a superhero comic turned it into a massive galaxy-spanning space epic.

One of the things I like best about Johns' writing is that he takes the past and is able to redefine our perceptions without changing the previous events. Often, what he writes has a massive impact on the comics that follow.

I enjoyed reading 'The Brooklyn Follies' - though I see what you mean about the end; not the best way to finish. Also, I didn't think Lucy was a very convincing character.
The plot was a bit contrived at times, and it reminded me of a slightly sub-par Anne Tyler novel. A quote on the front cover said it was 'deliciously funny' - I'd have said it had moments of mild humour, but my ribs were never in danger. Overall, however, it was a thought-provoking narrative with some intriguing characters. I'd recommend it for it's good qualities, and will be reading more Auster in the future.

Next up is 'Swiftly' by Adam Roberts - I recently read 'Yellow Blue Tibia' (a brilliant title when you find out what it means ) and it was very good!

I think I read the Catalan translation of "Follies", which puts you one step away from the narrative, but you could still tell he writes well. He is very confident through all the odd mix of things that happen (both in the real narrative and the story-within-a-story), but I couldn't find the common thread to hold them all together. I will certainly read more.

I will add 'Yellow Blue Tibia" to my list (although not any time soon, sadly). Good books are good to find. Thanks!

I'm reading "Sultana" now by Alan Huffman, which I got from the library. It's ok, I'm having trouble following it. Also reading on my Sony "Wicked Duke Takes a Wife" by Jillian Hunter, which I'm not liking at all.

The book eventually picked up, if your interested. I just had a hard time following all the stories of the different people in the book.
