Finally got around to getting a photo out of my phone. When I arrived at a wet part of the road on my epic journey(that is another long story), there was a little swimming lizard there. I got out of the car to get closer and he swam away. I don't think he swam fast enough though because I had reports that the locals were eating him the next day.

I think he was only a freshie. People had to walk through this as it got higher after I went through (safely in the car). As you can see it is a long way and around a bend you cannot see the other side of.

Another wet spot further on does contain salties, and I would not walkies through that one. Salties bite harder and are bigger. The one at hells gate is big black and over 15' long.

Or a small crocodile. There are loads of alligators in Florida, but they are generally shy. I've tried to get close to a couple of them to get better pictures, but they always scoot off as soon as I head in their direction.
