Good morning, everyone! Just 120 days until Christmas! Aren't you getting excited? Time to start making presents! Something to think about on this fine Tuesday morning as I drink my tea... Today it's Taylors of Harrogate's "Yorkshire" tea. Nice stuff. I'm already on my second mug and I haven't even gone down to see the Food Lady yet. Getting hungry though. Better get down there while the choices are still plentiful!

So thinking about this hostel project I'm working on, would you tea drinkers prefer one of those massive carafes just filled with hot water all the time or a plug in kettle?

Depends - if the water is hot enough, and the carafe is _clean_, that's probably OK. But unless it's a carafe that heats the water (such as my Zojirushi), the chances are that it really isn't hot enough for most black teas. In which case, a good plug in kettle is a better option, IMO.

Good morning, everyone. Up much too early this morning to take my wife to the immigration office. It's time for her to renew her one-year visa. The office opens at 7:30. We got there at 5:00 and was number 43... They will probably process her around 11am... if she's lucky. It's a long morning's reading time for her. Me? I'm going out to shoot some photos. The sky is just right for some temple photography! But right now, it's tea time! Unbranded Keemun tea for me, and some fresh rolls we bought for our early morning wake-up breakfast. The Food Lady was already set up and selling, but I can't face too much food at 5am!

My choice is the big carafe, if as Charlie says, it's hot enough. When I want tea, I want it NOW. I'm willing to wait the 3-4 minutes while it steeps, but not an additional 7-10 minutes for the water to boil. We keep a three-liter Zojirushi going on the kitchen counter 24/7, refilling it during the day as needed. When I want tea, it's just a matter of choosing which pre-filled teabag, dropping it in the cup, and pressing the button.

Longer. 14 months. But Japan gave us different visas. Mine was good for a year, hers' just 3 months. When she renewed her 3-month visa, they gave her a one-year. That's what she's renewing today. It's a shame they don't issue 3-year or 5-year visas. We have to report in every 90 days regardless of the length of our visas so they know we are still alive, but that just involves going in and signing a book. I have a visa agent that does it for me so I don't have to sit around the Immigration office for half a day waiting my turn to sign. Actually, I have an agent who takes care of my regular visa renewals as well. My wife may not mind dealing with all the forms and documents required, plus the waiting around, but I do! I hate bureaucracy!

I'm with you on getting an agent to do it, when you can. But what a pain overall. Before we were "Landed" here, we had to renew periodically, but once our immigration forms had been through initial processing, they were willing to give us renewals for 2 years at a time.
