Well, in previewing it, before I hit "post," I noted that I'd said that I'd grown to love "drafting hands" AND that I'd shared an architect with the presumptive Prez. I figured, with the wits around here, I'd best get the disclaimer in upfront. :-)

Oh yes, disclaimer needed. I just found out some people misread my name. Ok so the pronunciation is correct.

(I was proficient at making mechanicals with drawing board, illustration boards, t-square, non-reproducing blue pencil, eXacto knives, rubber cement, hand waxers and typeset galleys back when too, but it's been decades since I needed to do that as well. That makes me happy.) Quote:
My mother did long ago gleefully point out the stylized capital M my dad used to sign his drawings, which was precisely a "get your mind into the gutter" bit. I think dad wanted to see who might look closely enough to notice. I don't believe anyone ever did... ![]() ______ Dennis Last edited by DMcCunney; 12-01-2016 at 06:19 PM. |

And we now also have Comic Serif as an alternative: http://idsgn.org/posts/comic-sans-comic-serif/

My dad did a bit of drafting, for the small metal fabrication business he owned. I still write 1/4 in the same style he used for drafting. (No slash; the diagonal of the 4 stands in for the slash.) |

I guess, if you think about it, if you're poor, and you can make a font like that (if one dare call it a "font"), and put it in various bundle packages, and make a few shekels...{shrug}. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, eh?
It's not something that most of us would do. But if I were in dire straits, in a country where a few bucks could make a difference, I guess I could see doing that. What slays ME are the ones that are clearly cursive. How the HELL do they envision those working, vis-a-vis the connections? ![]() Hitch |

I don't have any copies now I could display.
But think of a capital M as a stylized rendition of a pair of spread legs, tweaked a bit to make the resemblance explicit. Quote:

Most of what I see is the result of an effort to do something the person doing it thinks looks good. But it's a subset of something I learned long ago. If you are a designer, working for a client, you give the client two proposed samples of what might be done, and let him pick the one you want to do. Give him three or more, and guaranbleepingteed, he'll choose the one you think is the worst of the lot as the one he wants. I assume the client has no design sense, wants crap, and must be sold on doing otherwise as part of the process. I do such things as a hobby these days, and part of any assignment I accept is an explicit "You determine what the piece should say. What it looks like is my call, and you don't get a vote. I'm better at this than you are, which is why you are asking me to do it, so do as I say." Quote:
