I found it hard at first to switch from left to right, but when sparring sometimes you don't get the option which side you are on. I found I had to fight differently and not just use the same tactics with the other hand/foot.

Well, some good vibes coming through this thread. KK's gnu knee is behaving exactly as I had hoped and expected (and I sooo hope she's still going after the original surgeon), Betty is getting out and about (with appropriate precautions), pooh is still consuming Ardbeg slushies, Vincent is climbing to the top of the Virginia world (sorry about the poison ivy!), cromag's daughter is headed back, and Stitchy is turning ambidextrous. All good.

I'm in the midst of a bit of (hopefully good) turmoil at work, but all should be resolved this week, though the changes will continue to cause upheavals for months, I suspect. So this morning, a big glass of fresh squeezed orange juice from California Valencia oranges, and a mug of Anniversary Breakfast Blend tea as I head off to the farmer's market, and then to the feed store to get the hens some nice organic laying mash.

In my Kung-fu days, I had no major difficulty with right-handed work, both defense and offense, although my left side was much stronger. As you say, it requires a very different way to fight. But in Asian martial arts you start working both sides from the very beginning, learning to block, punch, and kick with left and right sides. In Fencing, you only work one side, unless you are an SCA member and fence with sword in one hand and main-guauch in the other. I started fencing when I was 16 and fenced steadily... all left handed. Now 50 years later, trying to learn to fence right-handed? My brain knows what to do, but my body don wanna do....

I'm drowning my sorrows in a small glass of tequila. It's working.

@Betty - we have a similar situation in Durham - lots of fantastic hiking trails in Duke Forest, the American Tobacco trails, Eno River park - but armed thugs haunt the trails - many attacks this year - on male & female hikers even traveling in pairs or groups - robbed, beaten & shot even ... sad situation - police finally installed a couple of surveillance cameras but not really effective - so picking a hiking trail in Durham can really be a life/death choice! I'm not yet ready to hike while carrying firearms.

Tonight - Talisker whilst listening to the rain bucket down.

KK - great news about the knee - now the agony of the rest of your body realigning to normal ....

A hundred and eighty were challenged by Travis to die
By a line that he drew with his sword as the battle drew nigh
A man that crossed over the line was for glory
And he that was left better fly
And over the line crossed 179

Hey Up Santa Anna, they're killing your soldiers below
So the rest of Texas will know
And remember the Alamo

Jim Bowie lay dying, his blood and his powder were dry
But his knife at the ready to take him a few in reply
Young Davy Crockett lay laughing and dying
The blood and the sweat in his eyes
For Texas and freedom no man was more willing to die

Hey Up Santa Anna, they're killing your soldiers below
So the rest of Texas will know
And remember the Alamo

One of Johnny Cash's best! Good morning, everyone. I guess history repeats itself... On this day in 1755 the British started the Bay of Fundy Campaign to kick the Acadians out of the Maritimes.. But most dark clouds have a silver lining. If the Acadians hadn't moved, we wouldn't have Jambalaya, Andouille sausage, and accordions playing Zydeco! Yee Ha! Let's not forget the delightful stereotype Brooklyn accent either. That's another of theirs that can even be heard in the New Orleans area too!

Well there's East India Company's "Assam" tea in my cup this morning, and some rosemary foccia on my plate. Eating light this morning as we're off to the big hotel buffet for lunch again with friends. Thai, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Malaysian, and American foods, fruits, petit fours, cakes, plus fresh crepe, ice cream, and hot fudge sauce too! Damn, I love this life!

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day.
When it's cold outside I've got the month of May.
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).

I've got so much honey the bees envy me.
I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees.
Well, I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).

I don't need no money, fortune or fame.
I've got all the riches, baby, one man can claim.
Well, I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl).

Good morning, everyone! A nice Monday morning, and it feels good to be in love! A fresh mug of new Ceylon tea, my second one already, sitting beside me, and a plate of food from the Food Lady to get me going. Spicy way to start the day!

You can keep your Amex card. This is the "Never leave home without it!" for me. (Says the guy who ALWAYS gets whatever it is. No matter how careful I am.)

Thanks, all! I have some of that stuff, but it doesn't actually do much for me when I get like ... this. A couple of days and it'll be smooth sailing. Just hang out near modern plumbing in the meantime.
