This morning, a big mug of Peet's Anniversary Breakfast Blend. Getting a bit nervous, though, as I wait for my soon to be new boss to get me the actual written offer.

Hoping the weather clears a bit so I can get some outside stuff done. I have a lot to accomplish before my June 2 start. Especially since the first week I expect to be nearly full time as I try to get my hands around everything there.

This is primarily a work remotely job. I'll remote in to do what needs doing. But, inevitably, I will have to spend at least some time there. At a minimum, one day a month, but more likely 3-4. They're a distributed company already, with many folks working remotely, so the technology is mostly in place to make that viable. I'll have to add a couple of iLO cards (or their equivalent) to a couple of servers, but that's fairly straightforward.

Stitchawl: What ProfCrash said! Things can go ugly quick, though I'm hoping they won't, at least where you are.

Grey and chilly today. Time for more tea - I think some Lapsang Souchong is called for.

Good morning, everyone. Great song, appropriate for 'most' coups, but not this one. No crowds in the streets. No lines of machine-gun toting goon squads. Nothin'! Just news reports. There will probably be some soldiers posted at major intersections and plazas, but their guns will be empty and they won't even be carrying ammunition. It's a time to take Selfies with the soldiers, and mark another page in Thai history. There have been about 11 coups since 1940, all of them basically bloodless, and none of them really changing anything except the names of the leaders. Oobla dee, oobla da...

My cup runneth over with Taylors of Harrogate's "Yorkshire" tea, the Food Lady is set up downstairs so I'll visit with her when I finish this post, then take my camera and wander the streets looking for the Four Horsemen on the street corners. What I expect to find will be the four noodle vendors...

UPDATE: Dateline - Chiang Mai
I went out with my camera this morning, daring to brave the marauding hordes. All seven of them. The only way there will be bloodshed in Chiang Mai will be if one of the seven (7) soldiers I could find drops his cell phone on his toe...
I rode all over town, hitting all the major gathering points. I saw three soldiers at the Chiang Puak bus station. They asked me to wait until they put on their shirts, helmets, and web belts before I took their picture. I found two soldiers at Thapae Gate but they were too engrossed in their cell phones to notice I was taking a picture. I saw two more at the train station. I imagine that there were a few out at the airport but I didn't want to risk incurring more serious combat-related stress so I went to my favorite restaurant and ordered and ice tea. Oobla dee, oobla da.

Sigh. Miserable outside, and grumpy inside. Time for some Lapsang Souchong, and time to make a loaf of Rustic Italian Bread. That should help.
