I have very little tolerance for UX design which works by forcing the user into certain inefficient patterns for common actions, simply because of a design goal which is largely irrelevant to end users.

Banning all engines and cross-platform dev methods out of the blue, making it more costly to develop for the iPad, and forcing devs to reinvent the wheel over and over.

Rejected for using iDevice standard gesture support.

angelad - No, iAds is about inserting adverts into other people's content, then taking 40% of the resultant revenue. And you can bet it's going to replace any other schemes (no competition!) with Apple's one-size-fits-all adverts, which tends to pay a small fraction of the price of properly targeted ads.

Thanks for the links. Both are clear examples of Apple using the iPad as a platform to unfairly crush competition. I expect and Anti Trust suit over this, if not in the US, then in the EU.

In the meantime:

Developers: don't develop for the platform.
Artists: Quite swearing by Macs. Windows runs CS4 too.
Home users: Quite spending twice as much for Macs. You won't get viruses if you don't use file sharing and don't search for nude celebrity pics.

I just saw ads inserted in a car racing lite app (demo) on my iPhone, so I don't get it - I don't get a free app, but only a demo, yet I am forced to watch an ad in the middle of play. I deleted the demo....

I love Apple design. I am happy to pay a premium for it and for the excellent workmanship. I will continue to buy iMacs and Apple monitors - both are great values considering what I am getting.

But I am bailing out of the iPhone/iPad world. The exclusion of Flash in an effort to maintain a closed system was the main reason I am not getting an iPad, this just reaffirms my decision.

Wish the Androids will hurry up.

Well firstly Apples iAd system hasnt launched yet so for that game you need to speak to the developer.

Flash I do understand that it is frustrating and lessens teh browsing exp-erience however at the moment the JooJoo takes a 50% cut in battery life when using flash!so I'm also understanding why it isnt in there.
I think due to the popularity of iPhone and iPad that Flash websites and systems will pretty soon all offer an alternative so their sites content will work on these device so its becoming a non issue to me gradually.

I guess your referring to me? you could just act like a normal person and say who you are referring to, its all a bit childish and unnecessary. and maybe you mean someone else? oh well I'll reply.

As i have said numerous times Apple are WELL known to refuse apps for numerous potentially ridiculous reasons! ANYONE who is planning to invest time and money into developing them should be aware that there is the potential for their app to be refused. The devs designing these apps KNOW how the system works Aplle may refuse my app for any reason even one I would never expect.

Its Apples shop and they have the right to refuse entry to whoever they want and for any reason they want(before you take that to the Nth degree of course they legally cant decline an app cos it was made by a women etc etc)


You claim to know many devs, are they all stupid? When you choose to become a lion tamer you know the risks! and when that lion bites you its stupid to blame the Lion as it was just doing what Lions do! and you knew that could happen going in.

Any dev who moans about having an app declined(whilst it being understandable that they would due to the frustration and anger and time wasted) needs to remember that they CHOSE to develop for an app system that has this situation around it. No one forced them to do this they can go and make android apps.

Whats that they will make more money on Apple devices... oh right well then they have a decision to make dont they.

Oh the poor devs how will they manage? well maybe they just need to take a look at their bank balance thats how and remember if Apple hadnt created the device, the ability to put apps onto it and the app store and spent millions advertising it then no one would be buying apps and maybe then the devs would be happy? and if they dont like it DONT DESIGN for it simple.

iAd is awesome, I get apps in many free apps now and the apple ones looked no worse to me than any others.

But wait its about the poor Devs again! Apple will take 40% of the money although of course apple are both signing the contracts inserting the adds attracting the companies etc and managing the entire ad process thus freeing up the devs time. Do you know what devs could do though if they dont think it will be better for them.... NOT USE iAd!

It takes a battery "hit" when doing pretty much anything, and can't play even 720p video at a steady rate. Don't blame flash when the device's software in general is extremely poor - which is expected, since TechCrunch were doing the software before Fusion Garage cut them out the project out the blue!

This is a lie. Apple change the rules on a regular basis without disclosing anything. They cannot know how the system works because Apple simply don't tell them!

No, the majority are - rightly - getting out of iDevice development. Including some people who have been Apple evangelists for years.

Yes, becuase it's perfectly reasonable for a company to reject apps based on a super-sekrit system which changes on a regular basis according to their whims, rather than acting like a company in the modern era and actually telling people - like other devices which require approval - what the criteria are. Other devices have TRC's which are hundreds of pages long. Apple? Develop up front and then get screwed! What a wonderful developer-friendly business model.

Remember, Apple prohibit you from submitting the same app elsewhere, even if it's rejected! Oh right, you'd need to know that in the first place to remember, sigh.

Increasingly they're not. The Android store's rapid rise in apps - apparently nearly 7000 in the last month - is testament to Apple's utter incompetence on this, and that was before their amazing anti-dev actions of the past few days with changes which would reject 90%+ of apps if they were new (and will block those apps from being updated!) and blocking them from using common multi-touch functionality!

Yea, insert adds into other people's content and screw actually letting them make money with targeted ads, they have to have generic adverts! It's not active yet (although of course you believe otherwise), so devs can actually still get reasonable ad revenue for a while.

"Freeing up dev time" by smashing advert revenue (generic adverts pay a small fraction on targeted ones, again), creaming 40% of advert revenue off the reduced revenue, and forcing intrusive adverts into inappropriate places is amazingly pro-dev. Oh, wait.
