I want to read with bigger fonts too! BUT it doesn't matter whether it is 7", 9" or 123" tall if the width of the screen is the same as in 505, then you will get on the new reader exactly the same amount of words per line as on 505, unless you prefer to read in landscape, which is:
1. a pain in the neck on 505, because the lower lines are half-invisible & page turn is a lot slower.
2. you will have to turn pages a lot more often than in portrait mode.
I think the point is that with a taller screen a larger font will still allow you to have more lines per page than a smaller screen. You'll have the same number of words per line if the width is the same, but still more content per page.

However, if you get 2 words per line, reading is not much fun.

I
agree

Just pointing out that different people have different priorities/needs. Kindle DX would probably be a better choice for someone with eyesight problems with it's more traditional page format.

Oh, I know. I was just having a little fun. I saw a woman on the subway the other day reading her Kindle with what had to have been the largest type size. There were maybe a dozen words per page, and she was flipping through the pages like there was no tomorrow. But hey, she was able to read it!

Definitely no offense taken. It surprises me the size fonts people are comfortable with, but that's one of the great things about ereaders, easy font adjustment.

Tall reader? The same width as 6"? What is a point? I mean if you use medium or large font then regardless how tall is the reader only so few words fits in one line!
Why could not they make 8" or even 7 with standard ratio?
I see a couple of things favoring the new ratio.

One is that you get a standard (American) paper width in landscape mode, but you get it in a device that appears to be quite a bit more compact than the Big K.

The second is that most readers don't read by word, but by groups of words or even paragraphs. It's a matter of font size, of course, but it seems to me that the new ratio might actually work better for many readers, once they get used to it. More information per page.

I also think that the screen size might have something to do with making it economically feasible to have a 399 price point.

I see the 300 as the romance reader, the book that can be carried in your purse, cheaper than the K2, more portable, heck, even cuter in the right color.

I'm not sure how you make that calculation. Whether you read in landscape or portrait you will get that same amount of words per page and probably turn the page at the same rate either way.

If you want a bigger screen, get a Kindle DX, iLiad or DR1000. The larger devices are out there.

Me too. I will pre-order as soon it's possible to. I already know I will upgrade my PRS-505 to the Daily Edition.
