I don't see this credit card verification link, the bookshelf looks as it always has done.

Entropay doesn't link an address to the card so you can use any address and it will work, so I just put in a US address and evrything goes through fine including micropay purchases using the entropay card for encryption.
Only some of the books on my bookshelf have been changed to the new verification system. I will mention some of the most recent ones (I bought the Mobipocket version):
Dexter by design, by Jeff Lindsay.
The devil inside, The devil's due, by Jenna Black.
Havenmercy, Shadow magic, by Danielle Bennett.

Perhaps someone can test what happens when they buy one of these books now?

My fear is that this is just the beginning, and that all the books on your bookshelf with a region restriction will be changed to this new verification.
And I wonder if all the new books monday next week will have this new verification. This could become a big problem.

Yes it is quite worrying.

The only way I can see entropay not working though is if FW make it a requirement to be an actual US CC to be able to buy restricted books. Until then I will just keep my fingers crossed.

I just bought "The sparrow" by M D Russell two hours ago, and F****** I can't download it now due to geographic restrictions. A special message in my bookshelf asking for further verification.

I bought it with micropay though, so now I've emailed Fictionwise to ask if they'll remove it from my book shelf and re-imburse me the micropay dollars.

STOP PRESS: I just checked again, and I have the 'old' amount of micropay and the book is not in my shelf anymore. Might be a coincidence. Anyway, my Fictionwise membership runs out tomorrow anyway. I'd better find a new bookshop The prices aren't so different anymore anyway, a few cents is not a problem.

EDIT: This has also been applied to other books in my bookshelf - THANK GODS I've already downloaded them. They aren't avaliable anymore.

Here's hoping that these online bookstores aren't picking up on these workarounds by reading sites like this as otherwise anyone outside the states would have to start pm'ing each other when we find a store that works.

I'm sure they read this site. Am I paranoid?

BTW, I've just gotten a response from Fictionwise, saying they'd deleted the book and re-imbursed the micropay. Oh, well... I weren't legally allowed to buy those books, I just used a loop-hole - how much can I complain?

At least I have more than enough books to entertain me for a very long while - and if all else should fail, I can always visit the library again Even if it "pains" me to sit with a 3 pound p-book

But how many micropay $$ do you have left that you might not be able to spend anymore?

I see this too - but only on eReader files. Luckily almost all my ebooks are Mobipocket.

Oh, 48$ something - I assume I can still be allowed to spend them on non-geographic restricted books. AFAIK I don't need to be a member to use saved micropay. If not... too bad. I'll get over it.

eeek!

Good job I have them all downloaded already.

But perhaps I'll have to look for another store after all :-(

But this might be a blessing in disguise - I do have a two year's supply or more all ready to read...

So reading this thread we're rapidly approaching the point that the loopholes are being closed and we won't be able to buy most new ebooks as they are all (the ones I want) geographically restricted. All my books are mobipocket which is basically what my readers can read. I can't find a decent UK-specific mobipocket bookshop (any suggestions for bestsellers?)

The ebook industry is determined to shoot themselves in both feet aren't they? Unless you're american. It'll reach a point soon when the eReader gets put away & I'll go back to paperbacks, what a joke.

As much as I hate to say it WHSmiths appears to be increasing their ebook selection rapidly. It's a bit of a mishmash of formats at the moment, their older books are mostly in WMA audiobook or MSLIT format but their new additions seem to be mostly in epub and mobi so might be worth taking another look.

@ everybody experiencing the credit card verification problem.

Something has just occured to me after receiving my email receipt about my last purchase from FW. Are you email addresses country specific i.e .co.uk, .co.nz etc?

I specifically used one of my .com addresses just in case they ever did start checking this, might be worth checking and changing your address if this is the case.
