You cannot fix any of the fonts that come with the Kobo Firmware. They are all obfuscated.

I've never tried Kobo Nickel in KePub. Once I tried it in ePub and found itr unsuitable, I've just ignored it until this thread brought it up.

My daughter’s Clara updated last night. As she read the change log out loud, I heard something that I missed when I read it myself before. I don’t have to wait for Calibre’s update. As is probably obvious to you, I missed that this new data is available when we view the details of any book. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It’s one of my favorite aspects of this update—right behind the annotation improvements they made for the Elipsa/Sage

Hopefully, the RNG gods had little to do with these stats. Haha

Well, I've encountered my first scan&fix error since installing the firmware., and when I ejected it was stuck in read-only and not saving reading positions. So it's not completely gone, probably just back to the levels it was on 4.30.

Far better than having it happen on every third connection.

Not just the Libra 2, the Aura H2O I mentioned earlier also refuses to stay on the stock firmware, I'm only able to get it to that point after a login and the sideloading the older firmware update.

On a side note, it was fun to see the old home screen even if it wasn't functional in any meaningful way.

What happens if you try to sideload a font with the same name as one of the Kobo defaults?

Disclaimer - I haven't tested this since 2019...

Back then it was a good way of giving your main GUI a face-lift if you added your favourite serif and sans-serif fonts to your /fonts directory by renaming them (internally and externally) as Georgia and 'Avenir Next' respectively.

It's no longer the 'best' way to to customise GUI fonts, but it worked fairly well. There are a couple of minor drawbacks but it's safe and it does survive firmware upgrades.

If it's something you're interested in I can try to find the thread where we discussed GUI fonts in some detail.

Just tell him you’re charging a Kobo with a USB C cable you bought from some no name brand off Amazon, and that you’re keeping it in your pocket without a case.

I bought a no-name USB-C cable at the convenience store that is long enough to reach the caseless Kobo in my pocket. Oh, and something positive about Nook.

You select the patches you want to install (descriptions are in the file) and change no to yes with the Notepad or its analog.

Is there any particular reason why Kobo doesn’t have kerning enabled by default? Is there an issue with the rendering driving this decision by the company? (I read kepub exclusively)

Now that firmware has advanced font settings enabled for all fonts, the only reason I would have to patch the device is for kerning and ligatures. So I’m wondering if I can make do without patching at all.
