Think that people are getting tired of living in an IOS sandbox/environment.

It's taken a while for me to learn that I could have this virus without symptoms or with different symptoms and pass it on. I have had no fevers. Had sore throat Friday morning and could not sleep. Spent the day like a sick day -- getting up now and then but going back to bed. Slept from noon to 5 and 8pm-midnight. Woke up with an earache on Sunday. Drinking a lot of hot tea with ginger and glasses of water. Made chicken soup Sunday evening. Hope you all stay well. |

The rate of new covid-19 cases peaked back on the 14th, the number of new cases was down to 260 on the 23rd. Apparently, some counties report new cases and deaths in batches, which explains why the worldometers site has Georgia data with a lot of peaks and valleys. The Georgia site, assigned the new cases and deaths to the day they occurred, not when they were reported like the worldometers site. So sometimes it takes several days to get the real figures for a particular day. While I probably wouldn't have picked some of the businesses Kemp did, it does strike me as time to stick the toe in the water and see what happens. A lot of people won't open even if they can, and a lot of people are going to stay at home, it's their choice. That's a good thing. I personally have no plans to go get a hair cut or eat in a restaurant this week, but I'm more than happy to let other people do so. I'm sure it will take a week or two to get the kinks worked out. We will see. |

@pwalker8 are you OK with Georgia opening up prematurely before they are actually ready and to have another wave of the virus and even more people dying? Your post reads like you are OK with others being the guinea pigs.

Obviously reopening too soon is a bad thing. But it may take a year to get a vaccine, and can we really keep everything shut down that long? Sooner or later, every state will pass its current peak and reopen at least somewhat, and then once more people are out and about we will probably have another wave of illness and have to shut down again. I don't think there is a good solution to this problem.

The solution until a vaccine is available is to
a) strong lock down to reduce transmission as quickly as possible b) Once the number of cases is significantly* down, ease up on the lock down to get people back to work c) Make sure you can track and trace new infections and contacts d) Keep a really close eye on transmission through random testing, to make sure that numbers don't rise again** We won't be able to go back to the way things were last year without a vaccine. But we can probably get most people back to work, but we'll need to retain changes to the way we behave and large unprotected crowds are certainly out. *how much down is a judgement call ** the tricky bit is that numbers always lag. So at the first sign of numbers rising from unknown sources of infection, some return to lock down must be made. Last edited by pdurrant; 04-27-2020 at 10:32 AM. |

If isolation actually kept viruses from spreading it would mean that people would not be developing antibodies and, once they emerged from isolation, a lot of people would get sick. But it turns out that there a lot more people who test positive for Covid antibodies than people who have tested positive for Covid itself. Which means Covid has and is a lot more widespread than anyone knew (which means the disease is not nearly as dangerous as they feared). Herd immunity (the creation of antibodies) is already well underway.

I thought some of the business that were going to be reopened in Georgia were odd choices. Gyms could at least limit the number of people in order to maintain distance, but tattoos and hairdressing require close one-on-one contact. |
