FREE/BARGAIN — Romance & Discussion

Just home from work and checked out a hold from Brooklyn that hasn't appeared on my Kindle, or in Manage My... but it says it's been claimed. I then got another email for availability of another book - think I'll wait on that one a bit.

I "bought" Shannon Stacey's "What It Takes" from the Harlequin site before work, and put it on my Kindle, so at least I have something to read (that latter bit is supposed to be funny ).

I bought What It Takes from Harlequin with a code, too. I was prepared to buy it at Kobo so I could read it today, but was glad to see it actually became "available" on Harlequin's website on the pub date. Dare we hope this is a sign they've worked the bugs out of their website?

Sure glad I was able to get it early this morning before the cloud issues happened.

Haven't really heard either, since I grew up in a country where English is not the dominant language. However, since I know that owls are about as smart as any bird out there, which is to say, not at all, I would assume the author is trying to convey that the person described is a complete moron.

And as long as that comes across accurately, it doesn't matter to me which kind of bird the writer uses for comparison.

I wondered what was going on with Amazon last night. I bought Under the Never Sky, a YA paranormal, and it didn't show up on my Paperwhite. I always forget I'm on the East coast since we moved from MN to NC just a few months ago

Yes, I was browsing their site for last minute fills of some interesting urban fantasy series (at some point they made it much harder to find the “with romantic elements” but not dedicated romance stuff), and they shut down the site just past 3 PM Pacific Time, which isn't even midnight UTC.

However, if there's anything you really want, the books are still for sale at Kobo (couponable VIP-discountable) & Amazon, presumably until midnight EST and PST respectively, and all the ones I spot-checked were at roughly the equivalent of Samhain's 50% off in-store price, allowing for CAD exchange rate fluctuations.

Linkage for the lot ordered by title @ Kobo (the pages go beyond the apparent 99-limit if you manually change the number at the end), where I'm browsing now for the stuff I was pretty sure was on my wishlist.

Thanks, but I made a point of getting everything I wanted as soon as they emailed me. I'm just irritated that they could not be bothered to actually do what they promised.

Was going to go through and give one last look through today (bought some last week), but when I went the site was already gone. Books that were $2.75 (reg. $5.50) on sale are around $4.25 on Amazon so I won't be grabbing anything else I guess. I think I got everything I really wanted anyway.

Ditto. I picked up everything I really and truly wanted to get in the way of series-tryouts/fills yesterday since sites which announce a shutdown without specifying a timezone and shut down earlier than they usually would for a regular sale (IIRC Samhain used to have fine print on theirs which said that the coupon would only last until 11:59 PM EST, back when they gave out coupons) have made me paranoid (and now, annoyed). Today was just for leisurely perusal of the more marginal maybes and their samples, and taking the names of possible authors in their catalogue to look out for when they got their rights back and went self-pub/to another imprint.

And really, it's just bad business practice and gives the impression of unreliability (though I suppose this is not really a concern for Samhain any more), along with Samhain not even bothering to put up an announcement notice on their actual website, and relying on people to use social media outlets and not have their emails accidentally filtered into the junk folder. IMDb pulled the same trick with their message boards and shut down at midnight British time, leaving a lot of people who were busy trying to save copies of their PMs and extensive posting histories very angry, who thought they'd have a few more hours in which to do so.

AllRomance eBooks did a lot of things wrong, but at least they kept their site going for purchases and downloads right up until their usual time of midnight CST.

Heads up check Groupon for two month of Kindle Unlimited for free. Even if you have a monthly subscription it still works.

Several books I have been interested recently are on Kindle Unlimited, so I was thinking about it. Sadly, I'm not sure if it available to me. I guess I'll have to try and see.

I asked this on a romance group but didn't get many responses. Maybe I'll have better luck here as you all know me better.

I just finished a book about a married couple who married for the wrong reasons but fell in love by the end of the book. They were married many years before the heroine kicked the hero to the curb. Only as he realized he was losing her did he straighten up. I'm looking for more books like this where the marriage is loveless or very rocky at first. Do you know of any?

The responses I got over there were more about estranged husband or wife for example Paradise by Judith McNaught which doesn't count because of they we're apart for many years. I'm looking for where the h/h lived together but never really loved together. Those kinds of stories. There has got to be some out there. I found one by Shana Galen. It can be historical or modern makes no difference. I just want to read about imperfect marriages that get a second chance.
