I have that one. It's the only one that's been consistently reported that people have received, typically when you power up and register the device. The problem is that there are additional updates that only some have received and the BN website is not updated with the newer version.

Just a heads-up for everyone. If you try to return your Glowlight Plus at B&N for a refund, you won't be able to if you have opened the box the Glowlight Plus comes in, or at least I wasn't able to. They told me since it was opened, they couldn't refund my money. I was going to take it back and get my money back due to the problems with Adobe. I figured later I would get it again at a better price and by that point, the update would be out.
Needless to say, I'm one pissed B&N customer. Tommy |

I'm really enjoying mine. I can think of about a million things wrong with it but all-in-all it's really pretty nice. I'm reading my third book on it now. I began this book on my Voyage but I decided to switch. I guess I missed this thing.

When I first bought mine, I wondered about bringing it back. But it has grown on me. The 300 dpi resolution is nice! I wish it had physical page turn buttons, but that's a relatively minor thing. I am enjoying reading books on the NGP. Just for fun, I installed Play Store to see if it would work. I get no fc's or error messages, but when I start Play Store and try to sign in to my Google account, I get the ever-popular "Couldn't sign in- there was a problem communicating with Google servers" window. I haven't yet found the solution to that. I could always try the Amazon app store if that doesn't work, I suppose. There aren't many apps I want to install on this thing, and I can always sideload them. But it would be easier to update them from the device itself. Besides, the process of learning how to get Play Store to work will teach me a few more things.
Yes, there are plenty of things that could stand a little fixing with the NGP. But, I also agree that it's pretty good as it is, with the potential to be even better. |

I like the screen and that it's waterproof.
I don't like the touch (in)sensitivity and that it's slow ... They did bump up the specs, but maybe not enough for an Android 4.4. For sure it could use more RAM. |

I've got some sticky backed felt circles of various sizes I bought to put on the bottom of something or other, I forget what. They came on a card, probably from Walmart. I've had them in a junk box for a few years and that's about all I remember about them.
Anyway I took one that's a probably 5/8" across and about 1/16" thick or maybe a little less and stuck it over the N non-button so I'll quit finding myself on the home screen when I'm lost in a book and forget not to touch there. It works just fine. I no longer have a Home button but so far, reading with it like this a bunch today, I haven't found any time that I really need one. I can always just hit Back to go to the home screen. So far this has worked perfectly. I originally used this felt thing because it was all I had that might work and I thought I'd replace it with something nicer looking later but actually it looks fine and I think I'll just leave it be. This is a really big improvement in the NGP. Maybe I'll patent it and try to sell it to B&N. ![]() It turns out the N button is really fairly useless, at least so far. It's only purpose seems to be to make reading more difficult. I think this is a bit similar to the Nook HD design in that they did all sorts of things in weird ways that didn't work very well and made the device a lot clumsier to use than it had to be. It kind of reminds me of a line from an old song by Allen Sherman "There is a saying that is true as well as witty that a camel is a horse that was designed by a committee". ![]() They really made some dumb design choices in this thing but like the Nook HD it's a pretty nice device anyway. An addendum to my previous post: I did find a situation where the Home button is actually needed. If I go into settings from within a book, or if I go back into a book from within settings by hitting the open book icon on the top left, I no longer have a way to get back to the home screen unless I reboot.
I don't have a paper punch handy but I think when I can get to one I'll probably punch a hole in the middle of the felt circle so I can have a Home button, but it'll be a small enough hole that I'm not likely to hit it by accident. Even if somehow that doesn't work this is better than leaving the Home button wide open. That's a pain. This is a minor issue. Barry |

I'm gonna speculate that sometime in December we'll see the update become widely available.

Eh, what was I thinking...Bought the NGP and Calibre books that are fine on my NST are not so fine in the NGP. The current book I'm reading has endnotes and the notes in the back have the numbers at the very left (with the notes indented). Same epub on the NGP doesn't have the same margins and the endnote numbers do not show up. Which makes going to back to the reading spot rather a hassle.
I noticed the inch wasted on top and bottom for the NGP at the store. I thought it was something I could fix with Calibre but it doesn't seem to be the case. Even after converting in Calibre, every page has the title on top along with the dead space and the page number at the bottom along with more dead space. Is this a software issue rather than a something Calibre can fix? Gosh, my NST works fine, maybe I should just stick with it...I'll just keep attaching the cheap external light source... I'm ready to buy one of the old white Glowlights as soon as B&N marks them down. (Which I bet they will do, unless they're nearly out of stock.) It has that lighted screen, and I can work around the limited side-loading memory. |

Picked up the PW3 at Best Buy today. Just set it up and loaded a book. No issues with endnotes or wasted header and footer space. I'm sold.
Last night I read on the NGP and once I accepted I wasn't going to use the endnotes, the reading experience was great. The hardware for NGP is fine, too bad BN is so far behind Amazon in terms of sofware though. I prefer the look and feel of the NGP far more than the PW3. But the PW3 just seems so much easier....Endnotes work, great use of all screen space, there's a lot more background info on book available. I even like the way end/footnotes are shown--no need to go to the back of the book and tap on the number to return. I'll read the same book on the PW3 tonight and see how some serious time on it goes. But I have a feeling the NGP is going back in the box and to BN store pretty soon... |
