Actually, the date on which the KPW1 I have is three years old is December 12, not September. And yes... I only read a hundred books on it, so this adds €1.29 to the price of each book if I would replace it...
I don't understand the time zone thing, to be honest. I'm from a different planet, and we haven't got any time zones there ![]() |

I wonder if they are going to phase out the Voyage and just keep the Paperwhite and the basic. If they've decided the abandon premium Fires it might be the same for ereaders.

Tablets are a deflating bubble whereas the ereader bubble popped back in 2010. And tablets face competition from all sides at the high end from all sorts of players who think that just because Apple can charge $500 for a media consumption tablet, they can, too. (Hint: nope. Not that many buyers for that anymore.) The Voyage, on the other hand, is alone out there. And still better than even the PW3. It doesn't actually need refreshing, just a firmware update. The only clue we have is that the firmware update is running late, which suggests either a low priority (in which case it'll go the way of the DX) or that they're adding more new features beyond KFX support. It may be there isn't a big enough market for premium ereaders to do yearly models or even to sustain one model (like with the DX). It may be they'll upgrade the software and leave it as is for another year or until they run out of stock. Whatever they do, though, will be based on Voyage sales alone. (Not looking terribly good right now...) |

I love the Voyage screen. I'm glad I got one, but if they came out with a newer one, I wouldn't buy one. No need! The one I have is fine. |

I will state categorically that the Voyage is not at all alone in the premium market. The Kobo H2O split off part of its thunder at release. Amazon calculated that desire for a weather resistant reader wasn't that high. Time proved them wrong. Sure, some people bought one of each. Others could only budget one. And since the Onyx Boox I86ml came out this year as well our purchases were one reader (the H2O) for reading at the lake or in the tub and one big reader (the i86ml) for reading manga. The Voyage is a sweet machine. I like the profile and the gorilla glass. Those things didn't beat water resistant for my wife. I probably would have made the same choice between the two had we not gotten the Onyx this year. |

Do any of the Kobo premium readers have page presses or buttons? For me that is the option I will pick over any other. That and the great screen on the Voyage. So they better not phase them out as the PW are not going to do me any good.
My Voyage is great as it is, so I don't know what they could do with it to make it even better. Maybe some raised page presses so they can be found by feel. Of course in my dream land I'd have the Voyage but with the buttons the basic had. I still prefer actual buttons over the haptic, but at least it has "buttons". |

I have a Voyage, plus two Kobos a H20 and a Glo. I agree that the Voyage is a premium ereader, its shell is robust and sleek and I love the glass screen, unfortunately its software isn't premium and for me that's the problem. I read far more on my Glo now than I do my Voyage as I can have the exact size and font I want. As I get older having a sharp dark font at the right size is important. The Kobos also have Pocket which, for me, is far more useful than Goodreads.

I sure hope they don't phase out the Voyage. I have had the Voyage since day one and love it. The screen is superior to the Paperwhite 3 in my opinion, having better contrast. I like the premium features as well. I'm perfectly satisfied with it as is, but would probably upgrade when/if a new one comes out. Sales are probably down because it is a one year old device and the latest Paperwhite is new this year. Most of the complaints seem to be that the price is too high and isn't justified but I don't feel that is true. The lower cost Paperwhite however will always be the more popular model and most people are happy with it.
