I doubt Nate will want do to one of those crazy drop-tests you see on Youtube where they keep whacking some device until they break the screen, but I've had a Kobo Aura HD since they were released over a year ago and it's fine. I've dropped it several times, the worst time it landed on one corner and bounced end-over-end, corner to corner to corner and landed screen down on the carpet. (And no, I don't use a cover; it has a clear Skinomi skin on it but otherwise I read it naked.) There was a tense moment when I picked it up but it was fine.

It's possible the new h2o will be less rugged than the previous version but it seems unlikely. Naturally, all falls are not alike but at least my HD is as robust as my other electronics.

Any info on plans for the H2O in the U.S.? Will it be available at Best Buy, independent book sellers? When?

Thanks.

Plan is to promote USA tourists to Canada to buy readers or you can try to buy from Kobo website. When Aura was first sold it was months before they were sold in U.S. independent book stores. Not profitable market to really bother trying to sell to U.S after Borders failed.

I live in the U.S. and have tried to buy from Kobo's online store, but I was only able to do so once. Now I get an error every time (although sometimes my credit card gets charged several times, even while Kobo doesn't seem to have a record of anything). Anyway, it's so iffy that I now order through Chapters/Indigo online and have never had a problem.

What do you have to pay for shipping on an item like a Kobo?

From Chapters/Indigo, I ended up paying $16.60 for shipping two H20s (one will be a gift). That's $16.60 total, not each. That's not bad at all.

I don't think you can base the durability of a reader just on one single experience. If that were so then I could tell you that the Kobo Aura HD is practically indestructible as it once fell out of my cargo pocket and fell two and a half feet and landed on a concrete train platform and didn't receive more than a light scratch on the corner.

Has anybody in the UK heard from WH Smith re the H2O? I contacted both them and Argos a few days ago, Argos called me back the next morning, (they haven't even got the H2O on their radar), but absolutely no word from WH Smith even though I sent them 2 further emails.

I've emailed them three times. Heard back twice but no details on the H20 which seems ridiculous as they are supposed to be the main retailer!

I emailed Argos too but I never heard back from them.

I've pretty much given up and ordered the new Kindle Voyage now.

It's $30 to ship 1 H20 to the UK but they use ground shipping so it'll take weeks, maybe months to get here. Do they charge in US or Canadian dollars?

I wonder if Kobo and Kindle are staking out their markets. The H2O seems to be available for pre-order in other European countries. Kindle Voyage is available for pre-order in the US and UK but not in Canada.

The H20 is available for pre order here in the UK but only from Kobo and tbh I don't have any faith in their process and customer service to risk a £140 order with them.

The last time I ordered from Chapters, it was U.S. dollars. My credit card hasn't been charged for the H20 yet, so I can't say if it has changed.
