Hey- with over 1000 Kindle freebies in 5 months I can't remember didily if not for that gold banner. This month esp. I think I see a great new freebie posted, only to find I have it already...

I don't think she is writing anymore. Her last book was 2008. I think it could be due to not many publisher is buying westerns at the moment. I know several authors who tried to sell their westerns with no luck. Time to self publish I say.

Oh I found out something interesting today R.C. Ryan (Remember I linked to one of her books awhile that is on sale) is really Harlequin's Ruth Langan. She also has a western book on sale here from her backlist for 99 cents.

I don't see a early access one. Bummer. I like those. Hmm maybe Sultry with a Twist is the early access one? It says October is the release date.
I just realized I own all the bonus selections.

I saw this in a thread last night where Fizzy mention it but there is his picture in the newsletter. M. L. Buchman is a guy!

Danger Zone - Doreen Owens Malek

--Author has published with Harlequin, Silhouette, HarperCollins, Leisure, etc.

Quote:
Book Description:

DANGER ZONE - First Printing 1987 - Silhouette Intimate Moments

Released in 2012 as Book 2 of MEN OF INTRIGUE: A TRILOGY

DANGER ZONE has a tough, cavalier loner for a hero in Steve Colter, and the fun in this story is watching Karen Walsh worm her way gradually into his mercenary’s heart and break down his defenses. He tries hard to resist her and maintain his independent existence but the reader can tell from word one that he will eventually surrender. The story takes them around the globe but never far from each other’s thoughts, and when at the conclusion Colter transforms his life to keep Karen with him it is gratifying and fulfilling but not a surprise. The story also features a wise and witty best friend for Karen in Linda Folsom, a savvy Brit with a wicked sense of humor who keeps the saga humming along on the rare occasions when Colter is offstage. All in all it’s a fast moving and absorbing tale.

Just bought two M L Buchman books (The Night is Mine and I Own the Dawn); is it silly to be intrigued by the idea of a guy writing romances?

No I don't think so. It's unusual. I can name 4 guys who write romance.

I'll be okay as long as there is a romantic happy ending. It can't be as bad as Bob Mayer's monosyllabic heroes from the books he co-wrote with Jennifer Cruise...I hope. No Nicholas Sparks ending please!

Nico Rosso is another guy who writes romance. He is married to Zoe Archer. They are doing a steampunk series together, taking turns writing a book for it.

A happy ending is a major requirement for sure!

I have a Mayer/Crusie book, Agnes and the Hitman, but haven't read it yet; my sister has and she loved it. No Nicholas Sparks for me, though - I saw the film version of A Walk to Remember, and that was enough Sparks for me

  • Agnes and the hitman was a hoot! I gave it 5 stars on GR. It was the best out of the three. I have the audio book and it was even better the second time listening to the voice actor do all the parts.
  • Don't Look Down was pretty good but it's not really romance. It's an action story with sex in it.
  • Wild Ride was a DNF for me. It's just too bizarre. the hero and heroine are not each others love interest. I think they were smoking something when they wrote it.

I saw that movie too with my mom who loves those kinds of movie. Even though I love romance books I don't like chick flicks. I prefer action flicks.

WINNER of the 2012 Write Touch Readers' Award for Mainstream with Romantic Elements

****

"This was one of those books that I kept telling myself one more page, then I need to put it down. Instead I found myself tearing through the book instead, needing to know the outcome." --Just Jump Book Reviews
****
For Rose Gardner, working at the DMV on a Friday afternoon is bad even before she sees a vision of herself dead. She's had plenty of visions, usually boring ones like someone's toilet's overflowed, but she's never seen one of herself before. When her overbearing momma winds up murdered on her sofa instead, two things are certain: There isn't enough hydrogen peroxide in the state of Arkansas to get that stain out, and Rose is the prime suspect.
Rose realizes she's wasted twenty-four years of living and makes a list on the back of a Wal-Mart receipt: twenty-eight things she wants to accomplish before her vision comes true. She's well on her way with the help of her next door neighbor Joe, who has no trouble teaching Rose the rules of drinking, but won't help with number fifteen-- do more with a man. Joe's new to town, but it doesn't take a vision for Rose to realize he's got plenty secrets of his own.
Somebody thinks Rose has something they want and they'll do anything to get it. Her house is broken into, someone else she knows is murdered, and suddenly, dying a virgin in the Fenton County jail isn't her biggest worry after all.

Lady Sophia's Rescue by Cheryl Bolen on Amazon (free)

Quote:
Publication Date: August 22, 2011
Novella – Regency Romance
Sensuality Level: Sweet
Approximate word count: 20,000
* * *
As Lady Sophia passes through the gates of her new bridegroom’s country estate and he begins to whisper in her ear the delights that await her in his bed, Lady Sophia realizes she has made a most dreadful mistake. There’s only one thing to do. She must bolt.

The bride-on-the-run is rescued by the exceedingly handsome William Birmingham who thinks she’s a woman named Isadore, and though he’s the richest man in England, she mistakes him for a common (but well-to-do) criminal. Since she’d rather be dead than wed to her wretched bridegroom, Sophia pretends to be Isadore and take her chances with the provocative Mr. Birmingham. But how could she have known that her ruse would bring the gallant Mr. Birmingham into such peril from the wicked man she married? And how could she have known her enigmatic rescuer would ignite passions she never knew she possessed?
* * *
EXCERPT:

Spoiler:
“Just what are you suggesting, sir?”

“You -- and your sister -- will stay at my home until I’m assured that you’re out of danger.”

She shook her head. “I’m . . . an unmarried woman.”

The very suggestion of impropriety stirred his lust for her. She was an unmarried woman, a very beautiful unmarried woman, and he was an unmarried man. He had never been more aware of a woman. A sizzling heat flared between them as he drank in her sensuous loveliness, as his heated gaze poured over her exquisite face, down the creamy flesh of her neck and the tops of her breasts swelling against the blue gown.

Bringing a wellborn lady to his house was not a good idea. How would he be able to stay away from her bed?

He drew a deep breath. “I give you my word to behave as a gentleman. And my servants are very discreet. Your reputation will not suffer.”

Her eyes sparkled with mirth. “How can I know you’re a gentleman? I know of no gentlemen whose valets are skilled swordsmen.” Her gaze darted to Thompson, whose face was inscrutable.

William shrugged. “The manner in which I conduct my business and the manner in which I live in polite society are two completely different things.”

“I may regret it, Mr. Birmingham,” she said, “but I’m willing to put myself in your hands. Until this business is completed.”
