After trying to explain this to several of my family members, I put together this email... I simply grabbed only the files that they will need, and renamed them Copy this 1st... copy this 2nd... etc. then attached all the files and the linkss folder into one compressed file and attached it to the email. Here it is... All needed files are attached to this email in once compressed .zip file These instructions come from : https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kind...een_Saver_Hack Attach your Kindle to a computer using the USB cable. Copy the appropriate jailbreak bin file to the root of your Kindle. (File named "Kindle 3g copy to root 1st.bin" ) Safely eject your Kindle from your computer. To update your Kindle with jailbreak bin from the home page, click Menu > Settings > Menu > Update Your Kindle. Attach your Kindle to a computer using the USB cable. Copy the appropriate ss bin file to the root of your Kindle (file named "Kindle 3g copy to root 2nd.bin). Copy the "Linkss" folder to the Root of your kindle Place your 600x800 (824x1200 if you have a DX) image files (png or jpeg) into the "linkss/screensavers" folder. If you want to randomize the order in which your screensavers will appear, drop a blank "random" file in the "linkss" folder (Already included - remove if you want) Safely eject your Kindle from your computer. To apply the update, on your Kindle Home screen, click Menu > Settings > Menu > Update Your Kindle Anytime you want to change your screen saver images just drop a blank "reboot" file in the "linkss" folder after you've made your changes and you'll be good to go. After that, to make sure everything's in order, do a full Restart of your Kindle, and you'll be good to go. restart your Kindle (Menu > Settings > Menu > Restart). Let me know if this works.... Now, I just fire up my Gmail and resend that email everytime someone else asks me how to do it... ![]() |

I did everything in the instruction but my Kindle 3G will not show "update your kindle". I have no idea what is going on. I bought my Kindle 3 two weeks ago. It is 3G version and it's on 3.1 firmware. I download the jailbreak file and choose the appropriate file for my Kindle version "update_jailbreak_0.4_k3g_install". I ejected the Kindle and go to menu setting but there is no "update your kindle" available. Can anyone help?

My Kindle is U.S/Canada version. I am sorry for my stupidity but where do I find the "update_jailbreak_0.4_k3_install" file? There isn't a .bin file with k3 standalone. The files included in the folder are k3g, k3gb and k3w.

Sorry, I'm the stupid one, it is k3g. I was thinking of something else. Where did you put the file? Can you post your complete version shown in the settings bottom: Kindle 3.1 (xxxxxxxxxx)

My version is Kindle 3.1 (558700031). I copied the file to the root of the Kindle, just like the tutorial show me (unless there is a specific folder that I need to put the file in).

Regarding Kindle 3.2.1
So I've been getting plenty of questions in my inbox recently and I want to clear some thing up. 1. Kindle 3.2.1 fixed the jailbreak method used in 3.1 2. I think I already have a way of jailbreaking 3.2.1, but I have no way of testing. 3. I am not releasing it right now for two reasons 1) 3.2.1 is not a major release and it's not for kindle 3g so I can't test it. 2) Amazon released 3.2.1 specifically to block jailbreak. I think it is because they are losing money from people who buy kindle with ads and remove the ads. I agree with amazon that you should commit to the ads if you agreed to them. However, if you have a kindle with 3.2 or 3.2.1 with ssh access (usbnetwork), I would love a copy of the rootfs.img so I can test future hacks. |

I've got an interesting finding, if you've still Duokan installed you can put a file called install.sh in a folder called DK_DownLoad ; such script will get executed at boot from duokan. Now I just have to make Jailbreak in form of such script...
