I'm new to Android and found Coolreader the best eBook reader so far. One questions though (sorry, if its already answered in this thread):

How can I control/adjust the screen blank timeout in Coolreader? Most of the time, the screen goes black before I read the whole page and I need to flip pages back and forth to just enable the screen again. Is there a Coolreader control for this? Or do I need to adjust the common Android screen timeout for this?

Thanks,
Stefan

If you go into CoolReader's OPTIONS menu and tap on the wrench shaped icon in the top right corner you should find in the resulting list an option to "Override system backlight timeout".

Is it possible for me to add an additional font to Cool Reader? I'd love to have Times New Roman on there.

Just a note for Buggins to say that CR3 has been ported to OS/2 so now I don't have to use firefox and the epub addon to read epubs and say thanks for such a good app (used on my eDGe and now main computer).

Enhancement requests - 2 page mode

Hi,

I have a couple of requests for enhancements to 2 page mode.

1. Could you add a vertical line between the pages - it looks much nicer

2. Could you also add the option to display pages numbers on the bottom of the page as well as on top of the page. Also to have the option to only display page numbers without the time and battery icon/%. Thanks

Overall I'm pleased with Coolreader but turned off the left side flick to adjust contrast after an interesting time. I had forgotten about it and fumbled with my pandigital novel. The screen went black and it took a lot of fumbling to find the problem.

it does occasionally go to black when I first open a new book and in a few other situations. Changing from portrait to landscape or vice versa brings it back.

Having a weird problem with Cool Reader 3 on both my HTC Desire and Archos 101.

3 of my files have corrupt punctuation. It shows as cyrillic characters. For example "We" shows as 3 cyrllic's We 3 cyrillics. It's only these 3 files, all other files show fine and these files show fine in other readers.

I tried messing with the settings but no joy

Anyone have any ideas ?

It could be an encoding glitch. I have seen similar situations occur in other books where two different encodings were specified. CR3 just happened to use the wrong encoding of the two and ADE just happened to use the correct encoding. In that case, I think that the two competing encodings were WIN1252 and UTF8.

I've seen a problem in BAEN free epubs where the actual text in the epub's html within the epub is written to include smart quote and emdash characters not as escaped HTML.

These characters display fine in a web browser or SIGIL but appear as 3 hi-ascii like symbols including a TradeMark symbol in Coolreader on the android.

Coolreader does not handle this situation cleanly since the text becomes unreadable when trying to decipher what the text should actually be.

The same epub, read in FBReader, will display these characters properly without corruption making these EPUBs much easier to read in FBReader.

I raised a change request on Buggin's sourceforge project to get this situation handled better. I suspect the OP's issue is a similar one.

Not sure whether CR3 is more epub standards compliant than FBReader in this respect, but BAEN epubs are pretty widespread so I would hope that CR3 is eventually improved to display them better, even if BAEN epubs are not particularly standards compliant.

It's worth remembering that CR3 claims limited epub support not 'full' epub support on the Marketplace, I guess.

When reading an ePub file on Cool Reader for the PC, page breaks are showing up correctly where they are supposed to.

However, when reading the same file on Android, Cool Reader is *not* honoring the page breaks, and the text is just running all together - and looks horrible.

How can I get Cool Reader for Android to respect page breaks the same way the PC version does?

Where is the Recent Books list stored? Possible bug?

I've got the latest version from the Android Market.

I can't remove a book from the Recent Books list. I select the Remove option but it doesn't go away. (I don't want to delete the book from my tablet, just remove it from the Recent Books list.)

Any idea where this list is stored so I can try editing it directly? Or is this a known bug?

Thanks.
