You only need to do that for white bread; the recipes I have for wholemeal only have one proofing (although I usually give them two, anyway)

Some howlers from authors who depended upon SpellCheck:

"My throat was a little horse."
"My father took us to find chards in the dessert."
"Seaweed had fowled the prop."

Too tired to work on the 'anal' reference.

We have classic comment in our house after a boat surveyor (handwritten draft) reported on the condition of the anti-fowling.

We rather unkindly joke about it keeping the goose barnacles away from the hull.

He was responsible for the introduction of the letter box, not telephone booths. Trollope died in 1882 - rather before the widespread use of telephones.

Last night, as well as reading another short case for Sherlock Holmes (must read this omnibus again and mark some of the spelling mistakes I've been noticing - last night I had "would" instead of "wound", makes a big difference to the context of the sentence), I also read the first chapter of Ulysses.
James Joyce seemed to have a solution about where to put punctuation in relation to quotation/speech marks...in the copy I'm reading he didn't use any (speech marks)....

Thanks for clarification on Trollop, Harry! The letterbox. He worked for the post office didn't he? At least I didn't say he invented email.

It is pedants like you that make this place fun! Makes one wonder if such errors are typo's, mistakes, or ignorance. I wonder if the pronounciation would be different with different spelling.
Trollop or Trollope Gives new meaning!

It's a mistake to rely on Strunk and White; it is often wrong in its pronouncements.

Here's an interesting link noting (among other things) that White didn't even follow his own rules.
