I don't have a Mac so obviously never tried this program, but VMWare Fusion has a fully functional 30 day free trial, you wouldn't have to buy it. Maybe other Mac users can comment if that's a decent emulator or crap, or have other free trial options for you.

I'm not entirely certain, but I think VMWare Fusion is just emulation software. I would still need to get my hands on a Windows install disk. Easier, I think, to find another Windows friend who'll let me use their computer.

One advice: Try ANOTHER PC! Working without admin rights makes no sense in that situation. If working, and I estimate it will work on another PC, it's a question of 3 minutes to install PRS+. After that first install updates can even be installed on a MAC very simple. VMWARE etc.: It makes little sense for an average MAC-user without a PC to try to install a virtual machine, install windows, setup ev. drivers on the VM just for installing PRS+. A. |

Unfortunately Mac support by the installer is unlikely.
If you have windows installation disk, I'd recommend Sun (ahem, Oracle) VirtualBox (it's free). |

I just installed PRS+ on Sony PRS-600. Very nice piece of software, thank you. And chess puzzles make me smile…
Still, I faced ugly problem during the installation: after flashing with the base flasher and disconnecting the reader, it entered the death cycle: reboot, turn into refreshing database mode, crash and reboot (empty screen followed by "Opening book" screen), turn into refreshing database, … Installation of PRS+ has not helped, revert to the original software has not helped too. I finally resolved the problem by removing all the books from the device (it still properly connected via USB, I deleted books using Calibre) – afterwards it started running properly (also when I put some books back). BTW: earlier I tried removing some part of books, then instead of rebooting the reader started to freeze on the library refreshing screen. I doubt it is possible to diagnose what happened (I suspect flashing triggered some deeper kind of database rebuild, and some of my books turned invalid or triggered some sony bug) but wanted to make this note in case somebody else also faces this problem. So: in case after flashing the reader starts rebooting or freezing on the database refresh screen, one can try removing books from the device. |

Thanks Analogous, Kartu and Mekk for the info! I'm trying to either get admin rights on the PC I've borrowed or find another PC to use.
One question: Since I don't have easy access to a PC, that also means I don't have easy access to the PRS+ Uninstaller. If it turns out PRS+ is problematic for me, will a hard reset restore the original PRS-350 firmware? Or will running the latest Sony firmware update overwrite PRS+ and revert me back to Sony firmware? Thanks! Last edited by pssquirrel; 10-17-2011 at 12:30 PM. |

I'm able to answer part of your questions: I'm not sure if you can 100% get rid of PRS+ technically spoken. Kartu? That means: - If you just want to deactivate PRS+ (leaving some invisible traces somewhere in the hidden part of the memory) it is very simple and runs on a MAC. I've done it several times. No problem. So far I understand the 'thing' PRS+ will be removed 99%. The 1%-part is that part which requires the installer (which doesn't function in your case) to install. It remains on a hidden part on the reader. - If you want to get rid of PRS+100% technically (including the 1%) I don't know. Reflashing with SONY-software may not work (I tried it and it didn't work out of the box). But, stressing out once more, that should not be necessary because YOU will not recognize it. Maybe SONY will in case of sending for repair. I've done it 2 times with PRS+ installed. No problem in my case. They have done guarantee repair with PRS+ on the reader (and returned the reader without PRS+ ;-) - hard restore: No. A hard restore does nothing concerning PRS+ So, in short: YES, it is very easy with a MAC to remove PRS+ without VISIBLE traces. Ok, that's the way:
You know: If PRS+ is installed once, upgrading is no problem even with a MAC: Extract the PRS+ file (for example PRSP_350_2.0.14beta.zip). Inside you find update.zip, readme.txt and setup.exe. To UPGRADE take update.zip, open it (it's an simple ZIP-file, MAC can handle it), put out the folder called 'PRSPInstaller'. Copy this folder onto the reader. Restart the reader --> upgrade done. Ah, you want to remove PRS+ ;-) ? Do the same. But: Before restarting and ev. copying open the folder 'PRSPInstaller'. There is one file called 'INSTALLER.SH'. Open it with a text editor (MAC can handle this). The file is readable. Around the 4th or 5th line you will read that: To uninstall PRS+ comment the next line (put # in the beginning of the line) cp -r /Data/PRSPInstaller/prsp /opt1/dict >> /Data/PRSPInstaller/install.log 2>&1 Follow the advice and put a '#' in the beginning of the next line. Save it --> copy the folder onto the reader if necessary --> restart the reader. A. Last edited by Analogus; 10-17-2011 at 03:05 PM. |

Hello,
when I try to configure book viewer on 600, I don't see a nice list but what could be something like icon view without icons. Maybe there is a problem with this new option. |

Is there a limit on the maximum number of bookmarks in a prs-505 using the latest release?
I only ask because I have 175 and when I try to add another the ereader reboots. (I have been doing spell checking on some ebooks, hence the large number) Update: looks like a bad ebook, cant even get access to previous bookmarks in it. Last edited by hairybiker; 10-18-2011 at 07:12 AM. |

Fonts in PRS 650
Hi,
I find sincerely that PRS+ is a very fine piece of work. Would it be possible to make the font change in PRS 650 more convenient ? If I'm not wrong, you have to change font in the menu, then open another ebook in order close the former one and reopen it for the change to be effective. The reader must place the information on the book that you are reading in a file as you can open the ebook at the same page after powering off the reader. So, perhaps it would be possible to modify that file after choosing the font in the PRS+ menu in adding a line for an specified ebook (a blank one for example given with the PRS+ program) or a blank line to make the reader believe that no ebook is open. In this case, you'd just have to click on the former ebook to reopen it and make the change effective. It's just a idea I wanted to give (once again, the PRS+ is a very great job). Thank you for your job. Pascal |

Good idea Pascal. Something like that is planned.
