It's a pet peeve. I won't sign up for a site that doesn't let me browse first. I have no idea if I'd be interested in anything they have, and once they have my e-mail they'll probably sell it to eight million other spammers. Not for me.

Good point, but also a reason to have a spam/backup/fake email account for such things.

I do, if I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to browse somewhere, but that rarely happens, and I just don't bother. I'm not inclined to jump through hoops just to browse.

Audible is having a 3-books-for-2-credits sale, through March 29 at 11:59 p.m. PT; members only.

It looks to be a pretty good selection in the usual categories (general fiction, mystery, romance, SF, general nonfiction, history, bios, self-help, YA). My impression after skimming the choices is that there are fewer retreads and many more books I don't recall seeing previously in the credit sales.

(I especially recommend Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl.)
