Whispersync selection

I'm not sure exactly where to ask this, so if this is the wrong spot, sorry!
Just out of curiosity, does the selection of Whispersync available titles change over time? Within a specific authors library. Or is what you see what you get?
Thanks!

$3.99 -- PT-109 -- William Doyle/ David Drummond --> 8.6 hrs/ R-4.5 --> history

Quote:
PT-109: An American Epic of War, Survival, and the Destiny of John F. Kennedy

Whispersync: Audible ($6.49) | Kindle ($10.99)

A thrilling, moment-by-moment account of one of the most famous events of World War II—the sinking of PT-109 and John F. Kennedy's heroic actions that saved his crew—and a fascinating examination of how that extraordinary episode shaped the future president's life.

At 2:00 a.m. on the moonless night of August 2, 1943, U.S. Patrol Torpedo boat PT-109, captained by Lieutenant John F. Kennedy, was struck by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri near the Solomon Islands. The American ship was cleaved in two and rocked by an explosion; two crew members died instantly; the remaining eleven survivors clung to the sinking wreckage, adrift in enemy waters. Despite injuring his back, Lt. Kennedy—towing a severely burned sailor by the strap of a life jacket—led his battered and exhausted men on a harrowing three-and-a-half mile swim to a tiny uninhabited island. Desperate for food and water, Kennedy set off on a solo reconnaissance mission, scouting two larger islands two-and-a-half miles away. Discovering water and coconuts, he returned for his men. For six days they lived off coconuts and kept out of sight of passing Japanese patrols until they were rescued.

Drawing on new information from the American rescuers and recently released archives in both Japan and the U.S., PT-109 recounts this event in breathtaking detail and explores the incident's remarkable aftermath on JFK's life and legend. William Doyle reveals that, while the incident transformed JFK into a "war hero" and helped propel him to the U.S. Senate and the White House, the wounds he suffered during that harrowing week continued to haunt him, physically and psychologically.

I read the book when I was a child or young teen. It really is a fascinating story. Hollywood couldn't make up something as interesting as this or thousands of other events that transpired in WWII.

For those of you, like me, who have read (or listened to) the story, I would like to direct your attention to this statement in the blurb:
Drawing on new information from the American rescuers and recently released archives in both Japan and the U.S., PT-109 recounts this event in breathtaking detail and explores the incident's remarkable aftermath on JFK's life and legend. William Doyle reveals that, while the incident transformed JFK into a "war hero" and helped propel him to the U.S. Senate and the White House, the wounds he suffered during that harrowing week continued to haunt him, physically and psychologically.

I didn't realize that there was a new edition out with the "new information" that the paragraph discusses. It sounds like the original author, William Doyle (I'm assuming--I didn't go back and check--that he was the original author) is the one who did the research and revision of the original work. Peeps who have read or listened to the original edition might be interested in the "new information" that has been uncovered. One thing that it seems like I remember is that the Imperial Japanese Navy destroyer Amigiri, which rammed, and cut into, PT-109 has been found (but I might be mistaken about that); maybe that's one of the things brought out (the destroyer Amigiri hit a mine and sank sometime later in the war).

S
I have seen them change in three ways: (1) new audiobooks/editions being added for a specific Kindle edition; (2) Kindle editions being added or removed as the whispersync'd edition for an Audible edition and (3) the price of the audible title changing substantially - a sale price might last for months, then disappear and the price reverts to the "regular" price (which is usually below list and lower for subscription members than for others).

The Silver Linings Playbook

Whispersync: Audible ($3.49) | Kindle ($9.99)

During his years in a neural-health facility, Pat Peoples has formulated a theory about silver linings. He believes that his life is a movie produced by God, that his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and that if he succeeds, his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife, Nikki.

When Pat goes to live with his parents, everything seems changed: no one will talk to him about Nikki, and his new therapist seems to be recommending adultery as a form of therapy. Then, Pat meets clinically depressed widow Tiffany, who offers to act as a liaison between him and his wife - provided he agrees to a secret contract that includes giving up football and performing in the next Dance Away Depression competition.

$3.95 -- Cure -- Jo Marchant/ Genevieve Swallow --> 11.7 hrs/ R-4.4 --> medicine

Quote:
Cure: A Journey into the Science of Mind over Body

Whispersync: Audible ($3.95) | Kindle ($13.99)

Have you ever felt a surge of adrenaline after narrowly avoiding an accident? Salivated at the sight (or thought) of a sour lemon? Felt turned on just from hearing your partner's voice? If so, then you've experienced how dramatically the workings of your mind can affect your body. Yet while we accept that stress or anxiety can damage our health, the idea of "healing thoughts" was long ago hijacked by New Age gurus and spiritual healers. Recently, however, serious scientists from a range of fields have been uncovering evidence that our thoughts, emotions and beliefs can ease pain, heal wounds, fend off infection and heart disease and even slow the progression of AIDS and some cancers.

In Cure, award-winning science writer Jo Marchant travels the world to meet the physicians, patients and researchers on the cutting edge of this new world of medicine. We learn how meditation protects against depression and dementia, how social connections increase life expectancy and how patients who feel cared for recover from surgery faster. We meet Iraq war veterans who are using a virtual arctic world to treat their burns and children whose ADHD is kept under control with half the normal dose of medication. We watch as a transplant patient uses the smell of lavender to calm his hostile immune system and an Olympic runner shaves vital seconds off his time through mind-power alone.

Drawing on the very latest research, Marchant explores the vast potential of the mind's ability to heal, lays out its limitations, and explains how we can make use of the findings in our own lives. With clarity and compassion, Cure points the way towards a system of medicine that treats us not simply as bodies but as human beings.

$5.95 -- First Bite -- Bee Wilson/ Alison Larkin --> 13.0 hrs/ R-4.1 --> psychology

Quote:
First Bite: How We Learn to Eat

Whispersync: no deals at this time | Audible

We do not come into the world with an innate sense of taste and nutrition; as omnivores, we have to learn how and what to eat, how sweet is too sweet, and what food will give us the most energy for the coming day. But how does this education happen? What are the origins of taste?

In First Bite, the beloved food writer Bee Wilson draws on the latest research from food psychologists, neuroscientists, and nutritionists to reveal that our food habits are shaped by a whole host of factors, including family, culture, memory, gender, hunger, and love. An exploration of the extraordinary and surprising origins of our tastes and eating habits—from people who can only eat foods of a certain color to an amnesiac who can eat meal after meal without getting full—First Bite also shows us how we can change our palates to lead healthier, happier lives.

Thanks, appreciate the info! I'm trying to collect all books by certain authors. Say I wanted all of Stephen King's (or whoever) books in audio, but only 1/2 are available with Whispersync. I guess I'll just keep an eye on the books I want and see if more become available over time.

For the benefit of people who recently have joined on, or didn't see, the post about it . . . . according to the person making the post, if Audiobooks.com quits selling an audiobook that you have "bought" from them, you lose the book if you haven't downloaded it. It disappears from your library. Poof!

This is not a criticism of tubemonkey or anyone else posting Audiobooks.com's promos, it's just to let "purchasers" know, or remind them of, what can possibly happen to them.

Also, there is some policy about not being able to download one of their books to a desktop app. You can listen to the audio on your desktop, but you can't download to there. The only option (I guess that's an oxymoron, oh well) is to download to a mobile device. But there is the same limitation with Nook, too.

The one and only book that I bought from Audiobook.com retails about $60, I think (I didn't pay that much, of course). I didn't know about the above policies or I wouldn't have bought it. I don't have a functioning iOS or Android device, so I'm always thinking about that audio--whether I'm still going to have it tomorrow, etc. I'm going to have to at least listen to it, soon, in case they take it away.

Whispersync Deal on HUGE Ebook on 1939-1941 Germany. Only $7.48. Wow!

You can learn a lot about people who post on MobileRead from what they choose to post. Well, except for tubemonkey, who posts everything. And you probably know by now that I like history, and the topic of World War II is one of my favorites.

The ratings at Amazon on the ebook portion of this Whispersync deal are a little weak for me--the average is "only" 4.0. But, the ratings at GoodReads, where the raters tend to be, let's say, less generous with their ratings than those at Amazon, they are a stellar 4.25!

The whole Whispersync deal turns out to be more than $27 less than the price of the audiobook alone at Audible. That makes it only 21% of the price of the audiobook alone at Audible! I love (some of) these Whispersync deals, don't you?

You'll notice that the ebook is massive--720 pages. That translates to a nearly 28 hours of audio length. What bang for the buck!

A warning, of sorts. This tome covers the years of 1939-1941 only, and is described as "Volume 1" of a presumed planned series ("The War in the West"?). I can't find any subsequent volumes but, according to GoodReads the first book volume was published less than 2 years ago (2015), so I would expect one or more future volumes to appear later. But you never know.

Title: The Rise of Germany, 1939-1941: The War in the West, Volume 1.
Genre: Non-Fiction (Germany/Politics/War).
Author(s): James Holland.
Price: $7.48 ($1.99 ebook (marked down) + $5.49 Whispersync audio).
Regular Price of Audio, by Itself, at Audible: $34.95 (1 credit).
Ebook Rating/Number of Reviews: 4.0 stars/50 reviews (Amazon); 4.25/144 reviews (GoodReads).
Audio Rating/Number of Ratings: 4.4/65 ratings.
Pages/Audio Length: 720/27 hours and 48 minutes.
Narrator(s): Paul Boehmer.
Audible URL: http://www.audible.com/pd/History/Th...ook/B017C5YVOQ.
Amazon URL (you can get the whole Whispersync deal here): https://www.amazon.com/Rise-Germany-.../dp/B00XAQ1P46.
Comments: A top 10 seller in three Kindle Store categories.
Book Description (Amazon):
The Second World War is one of the most significant conflicts in history, but for seven decades our understanding of the war has remained mostly fixed, framed by the accounts of participants and an early generation of historians. James Holland, one of the leading young historians of World War II, has spent over a decade conducting new research, interviewing survivors, and exploring archives that have never before been so accessible to unearth forgotten memoirs, letters, and official records. In The Rise of Germany, Holland draws on this research to reconsider the strategy, tactics, and economic, political, and social aspects of the war. The Rise of Germany is a masterful book that redefines our understanding of the opening years of World War II. Beginning with the lead-up to the outbreak of war in 1939 and ending in the middle of 1941 on the eve of Operation Barbarossa, the Nazi invasion of Russia, The Rise of Germany is a landmark history of the war on land, in the air, and at sea.

No Excuses!: The Power of Self-Discipline for Success in Your Life

Whispersync: Audible ($4.99) | Kindle ($10.99)

Most people think success comes from good luck or enormous talent, but many successful people achieve their accomplishments in a simpler way: through self-discipline. Brian Tracy knows this firsthand. He didn’t graduate from high school, and after working for a few years as a laborer, he realized he had limited skills and a limited future. But through the power of self-discipline, he changed his life, achieving success in sales and marketing, investing, real-estate development, and management consulting. He has consulted to more than 1,000 companies, given motivational speeches and seminars to more than four million people in 40 countries, and written 45 books.

No Excuses! shows you how you can achieve success in all three major areas of your life:

* Your personal goals: self-discipline can help you realize that you are responsible for your success and shows you how persistence really does pay off.

* Your business and money goals: self-discipline can make you a better leader and a better manager, help you close more sales and make more money, improve your time-management and problem- solving abilities, and make you more effective and successful at work.

* Your overall happiness: self-discipline can help you be happier, healthier, and more physically fit, and it can help you in your marriage and your relationships with your children and friends.

Each of the 21 chapters in this audiobook shows you how to be more disciplined in one aspect of your life, with end- of-chapter exercises to help you apply the “no excuses” approach to your own life. With these guidelines, you can learn how to be more successful in everything you do—instead of wistfully envying others who you think are just “luckier” than you. A little self-discipline goes a long way...so stop making excuses and listen to this audiobook!
How do I listen to this? -- You have free streaming access to this audiobook with Audible Channels for Prime. To start listening, download the free Audible app, sign in with your Amazon account, and browse Prime Exclusive Audiobooks within the Channels tab.

Note: Android, iOS & Win 10 apps only -- offline listening NOT allowed. This is a new daily feature I'm adding to bring added awareness for this program. Audible has nothing to do with this.
