Well .... I had just pulled my Annotated Alice in Wonderland off the shelf when you posted the last clue. Treacle isn't a word used in the USA for a dessert - I only know it b/c I read lots of British lit.

Would you consider water an object for example? It's a syrup so it's more liquid than other thing, I think. And besides, it's stored inside an object, a bottle normally. Treacle definition.

Sorry if it isn't a word that common to American English, the odd thing is that I always have the American English dictionary on, on my browser and it didn't "complain" about the word. But what would you call it there? And I think it isn't a dessert for itself, it's a sweetener like honey or something, I don't use it that much but my mother sometimes does.

Maybe as I'm not a native English speaker sometimes I can do a mix of American English and British English, so, sorry

I don't think it's a language thing but a regional thing. I don't know of anyone that uses anything like it. There are sugary syrups, but they're used in baking, not in an every-day-use type of thing. Im going to look next time I go shopping. I don't recall ever seeing it.

Sorry then, I thought it was normal to use it in homemade cakes and the such.

Don't worry about it. It's a good idea. I don't know why we don't use a simple syrup as a sweetener. It would make a lot more sense when we order unsweetened iced tea.
