Thanks, everyone. It HAS to be better. But the fact is I'm brittle right now, and the slightest thing is a disaster. That won't change until I get some down time, and I won't get any of that until mid-April at the earliest.

Betty - on the Aberfeldy. I agree, it's not as good as Talisker. Or Lagavulin, Oban, or Balvenie. Or even Glenmorangie. But it's also $30/bottle cheaper than the cheapest of those here in BC, and definitely better than it's price. So, a useful one to keep around. Like all Highland Malts, it's a good deal less peaty. But what I like about it is that it doesn't have any "off" notes. It's clean and well balanced.

In my cup right now, Peet's English Breakfast Tea.

Slice down from the pointy end about 1/8" from middle, riding along the pit. Do this on both sides. Then take one side and score in a diagonal criss-cross pattern of about 1/2" wide. Then holding the ends, turn inside out so it looks like this! You can easily cut away the flesh with a spoon, or gnaw it off.

First mug of tea on another incredibly bright and sunny, but cold, day.

We have one patch of snow left in the woods out back, under a tangle of branches where a couple of trees cam down. There's a small strip of ice alongside the driveway and a largish lump of ice left along the curb where the plow pushed the street snow. It's not giving up easily!

argh. You're right, Betty. Was Bilbo1967. If ever one needed evidence that stress causes brain cells to leak out, just look at me. Sigh.

Well, it is better today. Mostly because I'm simply ignoring what needs to be done and will deal with it all tomorrow.

A big glass of Diet Coke. And time to think about a cheeseburger for dinner. Made with organic, local, beef and good 1yr old cheddar. And then, I'm going to totally goof off and watch curling this evening. Rachel Holman's Team Canada rink is playing this evening at the Women's Worlds and they're currently at 5-1. A win tonight will tie them for first at 6-1, with Sweden.

I did wonder why you called me Betty, but, well, I've been called worse! I did wonder if you were a Paul Simon fan;

"If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty when you call me
You can call me Al"

Here in the UK, the Aberfeldy is pretty much the same price as Tallisker, Lagavulin, Laphroig etc.

In this dirty old part of the city
Where the sun refuse to shine
People tell me there ain't no use in trying
Now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true
You'll be dead before your time is due

We gotta get out of this place
If its the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
'Cause girl, there's a better life
For me and you

Good morning, everyone! Worst air pollution I've ever seen! Someone should stop these farmers from burning! If they plowed the fields right after the harvest the stubble would naturally decompose into good fertilizer and the fields would be ready for the new rice. Burning 'does' speed the process, but at the cost of the quality of the air! And people's health!

Oh well... it's only for about three weeks out of the year. I guess I can wear a particle mask for that long! And drink tea... Lots of tea! Today it's a mug of East India Company's "Royal Breakfast" tea before I go visit the Food Lady and the Fruit Lady. Recently a Vegetable Lady has set up a stall in the evenings in the same area. Nice! Run out of garlic or scallions when cooking dinner... or need a few extra tomatoes for salad? Down the elevator, out the door and across the street and problems solved! For pennies!

Try using a very flexible blade, like a fillet knife, and slide it along the pit. I prefer to cut down from the pointy end as I can feel the pit sooner this way. Then there is just a wee little bit left along the edges of the seed. Those I just nibble off myself.

Good thinking. Here in BC, Aberfeldy is completely new, and priced well below what I think of as the upper tier of "mainstream" single malts. Talisker, Glenmorangie, Ardbeg, Balvenie, etc. These are all in the $75-95 range. Below Oban, Lagavulin, and a couple of undistinguished 18yr malts that are all in the $100-140 range. Then, of course, we get into the rarified atmosphere of the really good 20-30yr malts, like Talisker 25yr., at >$300.

Just diet coke and a burger tonight.
