Sorry to hear about the knee replacement. I confess, mine has been a complete blessing compared to what it was before. (My physician routinely wrote me scripts for 100 hydrocodone at a time and never questioned it. And goodness knows, I needed them.)

Diet coke this afternoon, but tonight is definitely a Talisker night. This rain is depressing.

thanks guys! you wonder how some people make it through the day if they can't pull up their big girl panties on an internet forum.

yeah, I get 225 hydrocodone at a time. I've started medical marijuana, but I'm sure not as excited about it as I was as a teenager, I don't like the fog it leaves me in. acupuncture works to some extent, I need to find out how much my insurance will cover with the recent changes. the simple truth is, if I were a horse I probably would have been put down by now

On medical marijuana, there are very different effects from different strains. Go to a reputable dispenser and work with them to find a strain that helps the pain but leaves you still functional. There really are differences. (Hey, I'm from BC - we know a bit about mary jane.) Honestly, the long term effects of that hydrocodone are not nice. And ya know, it doesn't really get rid of the pain. Just sort of makes it possible to mostly ignore it.

The other thing, of course, is that it's probably time to think about a revision on that knee job. (And don't go to the surgeon who butchered the first one!) I had a good friend who had a bad knee replacement and she finally had to get a revision. The second one was done right and she's fine now. But she suffered something fierce for >3 years.

This evening, I'm going to watch a bit of curling, and drink some Talisker. Definitely a good way to spend the evening.

Here I am back home again, and I'm here to rest
All they ask is where I've been, knowing I've been West
I'm the family's unowned boy, golden curls of envied hair
Pretty girls with faces fair
See the shine in the Black Sheep Boy
If you love me, let me live in peace, please understand
That the black sheep can wear the golden fleece
And hold a winning hand

The internet if full of people just waiting for the chance to get upset about something, to say nothing of those waiting to play teacher with a hickory switch. All too often in different forums (certainly not here in MR, ) instead of a simple adult 'you violated rule #XYZ, and must pay the penalty," there is a long drawn out childish 'you've been a baaaad little boy or girl! You've been rude and nasty and now daddy's going to punish you!' Frankly, that's usually more offensive than the original offense!

Charlie, do you find that the Talisker helps ameliorate the wild exhilaration of the Curling?

I've got a big mug of Ving Joom On's "English Breakfast" tea to start me off today. One more day of playing tour guide, but today a bit more relaxed as the group wants to go souvenir shopping in the street market. We had a wild night last night when they returned from their day of sight seeing. We spent three hours in another 'all you can eat' buffet, and no one does 'Viking Style' (the Japanese name for 'all you can eat buffets') like the Japanese. More beer, more food, more laughing.... We had to have the staff change the hibachis three times during the evening!!) There are 9 rows of food tables like the one in the phone grab below, five with foods to cook at the table and four with prepared dishes. Then there are four more tables with just cakes, pastries, donuts, and traditional Thai desserts... plus ice cream. The seating area is the size of two football fields side by side.... All you can eat for about $9. Live music playing too! That tall thing at the end of the table is a beer pump. Hold about three pitchers of beer with a separate center section of ice. I'm usually not a beer drinker, but the Japanese NEVER stop refilling your glass!

No, can't say that's quite the effect. Seriously, curling is a game of strategy and precision. Based on the physics of fluid dynamics. And you want some funny video? Ask any other sport's superstars to get in the hack and throw a curling stone. Much less do it well. Most end up on their nose or butt. All look like a doofus.

I admit, you have to actually watch some curling to understand it enough to really "get it". But these days, all curlers are "mic'd" so that you can actually hear what they're talking about. A lot like having a microphone in the football huddle. And the commentators are really good, so it's not hard to pick up what's going on. The one thing I really missed when we had tickets for the Women's Olympic Semifinals in Vancouver? Not being able to hear the curlers. Didn't miss the commentary, since I could fill in that pretty easy. But hearing the discussion of "well, if we do this, and then she makes that, and then we do this, the best she'll have is a tough runback double" -- that's the sort of thing that puts you inside the skip's head.

IAC, the Talisker goes with everything and anything, and makes it all better.

I complete;y get the long term effects bit which is why I am really working on alternatives. it's kind of sadly amusing going to the dispensary I've been using, you go from the kid that is; "yo DOOOOD!!!! I am stoned and they are paying me to do this!" that is obviously clueless about what to sell you. and then there are the people that have obviously educated themselves about what works for different things. one of the biggest problems I have found is that there is not a regular supply system, ie you never know what is coming in and going to be available. this is exacerbated when you talk to stoner dude who tells you; "I dunno, they'll be in when they feel like it" it may be pot. but I don't think it's that loose

I've watched a few hours of it on YouTube videos and was amazed at the precision and teamwork involved. From the 'throw' (or what ever the push and release is called) to the sweeping fast or slow, being able to move around on the ice and not fall down... It really IS pretty amazing. (But it's so much fun to tease Curling fans. )

Darjeeling tea. How I missed you.

We had a great Saturday. The weather was great so we were outside alot. We had a nice lunch with family and spent the night learning a new board game. And Michigan State won its game. Today is more play, gym, and watching the Big Ten championship game. Not a bad weekend.

You, missing Darjeeling? I thought you preferred China Blacks? IAC, I enjoy a Darjeeling sometimes myself. And there is such a range, from that disgusting stuff they put in tea bags labelled "Darjeeling", to a delicate, almost green, First Flush.

Glad the weather is finally behaving itself back there. Enjoy the time. Soon enough it'll be 90/90.

Oh, I know that we're a butt of many jokes. Some of which used to have some validity, in the days when there were ashtrays rinkside. But these days, curlers are serious athletes who train hard. And you only have to watch one of the better rinks sweeping a skip's "I think I might be a bit light, fellas" rock all the way down to the button, dragging it at least 10 feet beyond where it would have stopped on its own, to understand why they have to be in great shape. AND know exactly when to stop sweeping so that it stops where it needs to instead of an inch further and totally useless. A decision that often needs to be made 25 feet before it will actually stop.

Good. And do consider a revision if things don't improve. Because it should not be hurting by now.
