An old friend is a telecom and datacom tech, installing and maintaining telephone systems and networks for small and medium sized businesses. A lot of his business is redoing correctly what someone else botched. (He's sent me before and after pictures where the before shots are horror stories if you understand what you're looking at.)

More often than not, the original botched installation was the work of a relative of the owner. The other cases tended to be what you get when you pick the lowest bid on a job.

Oh and on physics, I don't think they offered it at my high school.
I figured it was like chemistry.

Chemistry also uses math.

Off topic but on things I didn't know: I didn't know Liberace was gay until I read Behind the Candelabra. I just thought he was flamboyant.

I hadn't actually thought about it, but had you asked me "Do you think Liberace is gay?" back when, I would have said "Probably." I didn't think about it because his work was about as far from what I normally listened to as you can get.

His sort of flamboyance was unusual in men who weren't gay.

You can also use a Google "Search by Image" type search: https://images.google.com/
Click on the camera in the search bar to "search by image", feed it either a photo from your computer or an address to a photo online and you get the same type of results.

The German Amazon is very confusing.

Yesterday I order a Kindle Voyage and a cover. On the front page of my orders it says that it will be send today (heute), if I click on the order for details it shows a bar at the top which tells me my order will be shipped on Wednesday and right underneath that there is a text that says that the date of shipping is unknown and the status will be updated soon.

Estimated time of delivery is Friday or Saturday. I'm hoping for Thursday, my PW was one or two days early.

Spent the weekend at our daughter's graduation from a major university. The keynote speaker was the president of the university. His speech was, IMHO, not quite up to the level of mediocre. Ah, well.

Everything else about the day was wonderful -- we got lots of pictures of our daughter in her cap and gown at major school landmarks. The weather was spectacular -- I managed to get some good color in my face (and a minor sunburn on top of my head). And she'll be coming back in the fall for grad school, so we didn't even have to do much packing.

I have two printer, one regular one and a Selphy photo printer, which means that I regularly have to switch between the two. My sister has hooked her printer up to the network and despite that I keep deleting it from my printer list it keeps appearing at the top of the list. To make matters more confusing is that she has the same brand of printer but a different one with only one number of difference. Which means I keep sending prints to her printer.

It does save me some ink, though .

What OS are you running? Under Windows here, you can select which printer is the default, and stuff you print goes to it unless you specifically choose a different printer in the print dialog.

Windows 10, it seems to set the last used printer as default and I manually have to switch back to my standard printer when I have used my photo printer. I've also had it happen that after a couple of big Windows updates it won't see my printer until I reinstall the drivers. Very annoying.

Doesn't do that here. Click Start, select Devices and Printers. When the list populates, you should be able to right-click on your preferred printer and select "Set as default printer"

Also, you can rename your printer to something more distinct so you don't confuse them. Unless you're actually enjoying the free ink and need to maintain an excuse.

Upon further investigation I saw that the option to automatically set the last used printer as default printer was switched on. I switched it off and made sure my regular printer is set as default.

It's a great idea to change the name, but that seems to not be possible in Windows 10 . My sister's printer has yet to appear on my printer list again, though I have no doubt it will, at some point.

Today's rant:

My Kindle Voyage has shipped, a day earlier than predicted. Unfortunately when I enter the tracking number on the DHL website it cannot be found, yet. Also, when I ordered it on Saturday ETA was Friday or Saturday when it was shipped on Wednesday. Now the ETA is Saturday.

I don't know where the German Amazon warehouse is but when I ordered a Kindle on the US website on a Friday I received it on Tuesday or Wednesday. Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is another example of Amazon's pessimistic estimation when it comes to shipping.

My parents have asked me to send it to California for them. I have been trying to do just that but it has not worked.

We got sun today after three days of rain. We already had some flooding in the area from last week's rain. The cats are happy sunning in the window.

The rain caused major sinus pressure for me. Finally things can start to dry out.
