I am not the best person to answer this, but to the best of my knowledge you use Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) to download commercial epubs which, if they're modern bestsellers, are almost certain to contain DRM.

This should not stop you storing your epubs in Calibre but it will restrict what you can do with them there.

For instance, you should be able to:

- add information about the book (metadata), including synopsis to your Calibre library
- transfer your books to the Sony
- store your preferred cover art in the Calibre library
- copy your preferred cover art to the Sony's thumbnails used when viewing your list of books on the reader

but you would not be able to:

- change the epub in anyway (e.g. add the jacket I mentioned above, or change the cover art inside the actual epub book)
- view the book contents

If the DRM is removed you can do all of the above, and more besides. However, we are not allowed to discuss DRM removal methods on MobileRead. Googling "Apprentice Alf" would give you more info.

What is that new message about? I just updated my 950 with the latest 2.0.14 "beta" enhanced firmware, and now I see a message to this effect for each book I open. I did not see that with the previous version (several versions back, from early this year).

What exactly does it mean? Is the message just informative, or a warning of "memory" filling up? Is it going into internal storage that will fill up, or does it refer to RAM? If RAM, I would hope that is dynamically demand-managed to flush out prior book loads as needed - is something like that going on?

P.S. A search of this forum on that phrase did not get anything that seemed relevant - sorry if I did not formulate it correctly.

Copying book to internal memory - should only be shown if SD-card-scan & read-cache are dissabled - and you are browsing the SD-card.
In this mode startup should be instant (because no scanning of the SD-card will take place) but in this mode a file can't be opend direct from the SD-card.
So you will be prompted to copy the file to IM (and open it there) if you tap a file in browse-folder on the sd-card.
Makes this any sense to you?

Hey guys, I have been using ebookapps for a long time on my old but holding 505, but got bored of constant crashes and wanted to see how PRS+ goes and woah, I'm impressed
However, I have troubles installing it... I managed to remove ebookapps, but can't install 2.0.14, the first time install completed okay, but file browser's name is "NODE_BROWSE_FOLDERS", games are "NODE_GAMES_AND_UTILS", and prs settings are all mess of "invalid type" and stuff. I then formatted internal memory and loaded again - this time there were errors during the "checking" phase after PRS install, device restarted and same view. I reloaded original sony firmware, which wiped PRS+ clean, then reloaded it again, same story, am I missing something? Or I need some prev version of PRS+ installed so I can upgrade to 2.0.14?

Edit: reflashed sony firmware again, formatted internal memory again, installed 2.0.14 again - this time no errors on log, yet, NODE_BROWSE_FOLDERS and all the other stuff is there, this last beta very much looks like it have to be installed over something.

Thanks, Mark - that clarifies a lot. Now if I could get a bit more clarifying...

I did turn off the SD-card-scan, but I do not remember seeing anything about read cache - where is that set? Do they work in tandem?

I like the skipping of the initial scan, but is there a downside with the copy to IM (besides that message and delay)? Is IM the RAM or internal flash card/SSD storage? Is the previous book image flushed when another is opened?

Does the initial scan apply to music files on the Mem Stick card (I use that for music, and the SD card for books), also? I have watched that light blink quite a while (700+ mp3 files) upon an initial startup, so it seems so. How will music playback be affected by the no-scan setting - any such copy to IM being done for that?

Assuming you have a proper 2.0.14b version that you've downloaded from PRS+ project site.

Check if choosing different language helps.
It might be caused by some addon broken by some older values. In this case removing all prs+ settings would help (neither flashing, nor formatting does that).

Create file (create missing folders) in internal memory:

/database/system/PRSPlus/prsp.sh

put there:

rm -R /opt0/prsp

When editing the file, do not press enter (end of line symbol) to avoid troubles with windows EOLs (not support).

Don't forget to remove the file after you fully restart the reader.

Edit: also, PRS+ seems a lot faster than ebookapps, cyrillic sorting works great too and hopefully won't need to restart it every hour to get back working

I have maybe a similar problem. I have an 'undefined' in the statusbar where the time should be. Selecting 12h instead of 24 and a whole lot of other things that I tried which modifies the statusbar all didn't work. Also tried the above of removing the prefs didn't work. I don't know what the defaults are but I have a feeling that the 'rm' hasn't worked. Is there a way the check if it has worked?

I heard with PRS+ I could transfer books to my PRS950 over WIFI. I've installed PRS+.. how do I transfer books now? I don't see any way to do it in the menus.

Uhm, never heared about that.
As far as WiFi goes, with PRS+ enables browser to download files (they are saved in the root of internal memory) Maybe that's what was meant.

I think you are correct and that downloading via the browser is what he is referring to.

@Farhan23 if you use calibre's content server you can grab books from your calibre library via WiFi and read them on your device.

I have bad and good news about T1, guys. (based on dumps kindly shared by porkupan) Good is that old method of flashing used by PRS+ installers for x50 still works. Sony's code is still not obfuscated. Now there is legit JNI interface to mix some native code in, instead of strange Kinoma's way that was never harnessed.

Bad is that Kinoma's engine seems completely abandoned. No more "write for one model and it works on a bunch of them". Digging android code will be quite a task, decompilers are nowhere at defsk2 level, which might turn patching into a very painful process. System is not as solid as on older models, hung number of times for different users.
