I'm currently halfway through Green Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. I have purchased ready to go George RR Martin's A Game of Thrones...I know it has been out for a while but havent read any of his yet and looking forward to it.

Finished "The Portrait of Mrs. Charbuque" by Jeffrey Ford last night. Absolutely wonderful historical thriller/literary puzzle type of book.

A Game of Thrones is fantastic, I think you will love it! I couldn't put it down.

I really enjoyed Shantaram. I had heard that some sort of sequel was planned a few years back but haven't heard anything about that since then. I think I will give Pat Conroy a chance, thanks for the recommendation. If you like Southern Gothic Fiction, might I suggest that you give Southern Ontario Gothic a try? You can't go wrong with Robertson Davies (although I am not sure if his books are available as ebooks.) I really like Jane Urquhart as well.

I am almost through "the year of the flood" and it is fantastic. My only regret is that I didn't re-read Oryx and Crake prior to starting it - in fact I find myself re-reading sections of it parallel to reading "The Year of the Flood". While people who haven't read Oryx and Crake will have no problem with "The Year of the Flood", I would suggest reading Oryx and Crake first. In fact, I suspect that I might re-read Oryx and Crake after finishing "the Year of the Flood" as the two really complement each other and add depth to each others' storylines. I have a couple of contenders for "next novel I will read" and can't choose... I am thinking something light, maybe a Diana Wynne Jones novel.

Agreed. I pulled out Oryx and Crake and re-read a bit myself after finishing "Flood" but I do wish it had been fresher in my mind, I think it would have enhanced the reading experience.

Just finished _Flashforward_ by Robert J Sawyer. A very good read. I would give this one a 3.5... it would be a 4 but there were some slow parts in it that I think just were to much rambling on. This one should have some good discussions once we start the MRBC thread for it.

I think next I am still going for _Gibraltar Stars_.

Just Finished "Feynman's Rainbow A Search for Beauty in Physics and in Life" By Leonard Miodinow.

Its an interesting book, on how Feynman affected his career, and gives some intresting insights into his character from an outsider perspective.

Its interesting to see how Human Feynman was and how his behaviour was precieved and affected others around him.

While not a long book, it did take me a while to get around to reading it and finishing it as I would often get boogged down a little.

Its now got me Psyched to go read "Genius" something which I've been putting off for a while.

I've been looking forward to Margaret Atwood's *Year of the Flood*. So many thanks for the advice to go for *Oryx and Craik* first. Will do. Maybe the crazy prices for the *Flood* ebook will become more sensible meantime. Cheers. Neil

PS: Just re-read for the hundredth time *Catcher in the Rye* (always a bright experience) and started on McCormak's *The Road* last night. Beurifully written; almost poetic. N

The Road is on my list maybe next.....and I really should re-read Catcher as I think it was some 40 years ago that I read it.
