Welcome back, MrPLD. I'm glad things didn't go as bad for you as they could have. We were all watching that storm. It was truly devastating.

WT Sharpe,

Another 150km further south and it would have been a disaster of significant levels. We're just fortunate that where it tracked was comparatively unpopulated. That said, it'll be quite a task to rebuild even those small areas.

We only lost power and had tree losses - minor inconveniences (though growing replacement trees will be another 10 years).

The size alone of the flooding boggles the mind. I imagine the true cost of that storm won't be known for years, if at all.

It certainly has reshaped the state in many ways. Still, we all get up and get on with our lives as best as we can, I for one am profoundly thankful at how little damage we received.

Strider has a new game. it's called "Catman". well actually I call it Catman, I'm sure he has a different name for it. in order to play this game, you must take a plastic shopping bag purloined from the garbage (I use my own bags to shop, but it always seems as if one or two of those damn plastic bags sneak in!). first you rustle it around for awhile, drag it, shake it, you know, just to make sure it is properly crinkly enough. when you are satisfied with the crinkle factor, wiggle it around just so one of the handles is kind of sticking up. slide your head through the handle, then rub up against the chair enough that you have the large part of the bag down your back. then figure out where Arwen is. stampede up on her with the bag making as much noise as possible and flying out behind you like a cape. scare the dickens out of her, then proceed to chase her through the kitty condos, over the counters, under the kitchen chairs, up and around the bed, bounce off of Mom, leap the dog. repeat until you have broken something, the bag is shredded, or Mom is calling violin string makers

once or twice is accidental. this is now being repeated regularly enough that it is apparent that it is a "planned" activity

That sounds hilarious.

I'm currently torturing... ah, playing with the cat with a laser pointer. It's so funny to watch him scramble after it. Sometimes he chirps at it when he can't figure out why he can't catch it.

lasers are a disaster with these two. they are both so big, physical and athletic that very quickly chairs are knocked over, the dog is in hiding, attempting to assume the identity of an extra large chihuahua, and I usually have a scratch or three

Yikes! Ours is a big boy, but I don't think he has ever reached that level of havoc (much as he tries). Are yours any particular breed?

I don't know what they call them, but one has black spots and the other has orange and black stripes.
