The links for the PW3 initial factory firmware image from step #3 of the instructions don't work for me. The ADrive link says "The file you are trying to access is no longer available publicly" and the Mediafire link says "This file is currently set to private." The md5 link is fine from ADrive. Am I missing something, or are the links broken?

Those messages are exactly correct.
It is intentional.

Google can find you hundreds of copies of those filenames.
You should test whatever you find with the md5 file.

Excellent, thank you. I have a PW3W with firmware 5.8.9.0.1 (3175970011). I see that it may be possible to jailbreak but is an exception according to the firmware version. Should I follow the instructions to the letter to attempt the jailbreak?

Hey, did anyone know that on Kindle 5.x firmwares, the "system" folder on a stock Kindle is appearing on the root of the USB storage in Linux (and maybe even macOS?)

It may be useful for another jailbreak method. Because I played for a while and I think there is a really nice backdoor on 5.8.10 which I'm going to try and use for a jailbreak method similar to the one on 5.6.5. I think if you still have a stock Kindle, turn on your Aeroplane Mode if you haven't already.

Windows 10 also showed it up (5.8.11).

Hmmmm... Interesting. Why didn't my Windows 10 show it (yes, I do have show hidden files option enabled).

If it does, do I have to install something to preserve it ? I have a KT3 to test .

Install the hotfix and jailbreak will survive.

It has been there the entire history of the 5.x versions.
IIRC, it was also there on earlier 4.x versions.

It has certainly been there a lot longer than Windows10 has been in release.
