Slite thanks for that, ive added them to my wishlist & will wait for an english translation. BTW, a bit off topic, but hollywood is remaking Let The Right One In, & they are getting a blond blue-eyed girl to play Eli. A bit miscast, since Eli was supposed to be darker, grundgy & androgynous.

*sigh* American filmmakers.... Why on earth do they feel it necessary to "change" things like that from books?

I just hope Daniel Alfredsson (who made Låt den rätte komma in) gets too make Människohamn. I liked it a lot more than Let the right one in. It's way more scary in a more subtle way.

Yeah.... Even for the movie release, they english subtitles they used were "dumbed down" compared to the theatrical release, the dialog lost a lot of meaning & depth.

I just finished it last night. I have to say that while there was a lot I enjoyed about this book, I feel it could have used a better editor. There was a lot that I think could have been taken out, while on the other hand there were many characters that I would have liked to have seen fleshed out a bit more. I couldn't bring myself to care about the secondary characters. I wasn't too crazy about the author's style of writing, either. I don't know what to think of this book. While I do have some serious complaints about it, I can honestly say that I enjoyed it for the most part. (I don't want to get into any details that might spoil the story for you.)

I just started "The Year of the Flood" and it looks pretty good so far. I am also reading "How to Kill a Dragon: Aspects of Indo-European Poetics" which I strongly recommend to anyone interested in historical linguistics, comparative literature or classical philology / Celtic studies / Sanskrit. It's a fascinating book.

I'm a huge fan of Southern Fiction (and Southern Gothic Fiction), possibly due to my upbringing as a Southerner. With that in mind, I'm reading "Lords of Discipline," by Pat Conroy. I'm only 1/3 through it, but I can wholeheartedly recommend this important novel.

Also, I just purchased "Shantaram," which I'm very excited about starting, in probably 5-6 days from now.

Yep, I loved that one as well as Prince of Tides!

I've put "South of Broad" on hold for the moment and have gone back to reading "Hard Times" - Dickens , also threw in a couple of short stories in between - I love short stories.

T. C. Boyles - "Admiral" - the first story in the 2008 - Best American Short Stories (pbook)

I have been wanting to read "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy and after searching around and not finding it in epub ordered it used for about $4.50 from Amazon....

I'm a big Pat Conroy fan. Lords of Discipline and The Great Santini are tied as favourites for me.

T.C. Boyle is a quirky genius, especially in the short story form, in my opinion.

I love reading him. I also collect his work in hardback; I'm only missing his first novel in First Edition Hardback.

Recently finished 'Garden of Beasts' by Jeffery Deaver; the first book of his I've read. An entertaining thriller set against the backdrop of the 1936 Berlin Olympics. A bit clunky in places, but some good twists and pacey writing kept me engaged.

Now two thirds of the way through 'The Marriage of Elinor' by Margaret Oliphant. It's been several weeks since I last read an Oliphant, and I was getting withdrawal symptoms. A late work, thoroughly enjoyable so far, and intriguingly echoing Oliphant's personal situation at the time she wrote it.

My pleasure, Sparrow. Have you noticed that Project Gutenberg Canada now has three Oliphants:

The Rector and The Doctor's Family (1863) [Two novellas]
Phoebe, Junior (1876)
The Marriage of Elinor (1892)
